Glue Ear

Hi,

DS has had an ongoing ear infection for about 3 months (and has been on antibiotics all this time). He now has glue ear and we have been referred to an ENT specialist. The GP indicated that glue ear can cause issues with hearing.

Does anyone have anymore information on Glue Ear ?

I was diagnosed with glue ear when I was young (maybe 9?). It can affect your hearing, I can remember having everything go quiet and then a low tone or beep would sound in my ear. I had the operation where they suck out the goop (I don't think I had grommets) and was fine after that - it never recurred. I don't remember being in particular pain or having hearing problems following the operation. If they operate you just have to be careful not to get the ears wet until the eardrum heals over.
