hi girls ;)
just a silly question....
Is it ok to put custard powder in a babies bottle of formula?
Someone told me it is, but i want more opinions on the subject!
:)
i've never heard of this, however someone once suggested i put the rice cereal in wil's bottle when he wasn't taking to solids.
I don't think that it is a good idea to do this as it could probably lead to over-eating as the baby thinks that they are just drinking their usual amount of milk (does that make sense?) - and they don't really need extra food til around 6 months (this is according to the world health organisation).
how old is your baby? if he/she is over six months, maybe you could try feeding him/her some custard or vegies after a formula feed.
if your baby is under six months of age, formula should be enough for them. if you are concerned about your bub not getting enough to eat, i would try to increase the amount of milk (especially at night time) or talk to your child health nurse.
people do tend to give you a lot of advice when you're a mum - if ever you are unsure i think that it is wise to talk to others especially health professionals who know what they are talking about.
That is my opinion!

HI JUST WONDERING IF YOUR LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO THINCKEN UP BUBS FORMULA YOU CAN BUY THICKNER FROM THE CHEMIST FOR ABOUT $13.00 MADE BY KARICARE ?
I agree with wilsmum, amybe some rice cereal but try solids (if old enough) or increase feeds. I don't know if I would use karicare to thicken a bottle as the thickened milk wont pass through the teat. Karicare is more used for persons with a delayed swallow ie person who cannot drink thin fluids wtihout them ending up in the lung (know as aspiration).

Hi all
In relation to the Karicare thickener - is it also used for reflux babies - to thicken their feeds. From personal experience it is hard to get it through the teats and we've had lots of trial and error - success with Avent variable flow teats as they are big enough.
Anyway - it is really just a thickener - not unlike cornflour - and will not add any nutritional value. Probably best with the rice cereal for this reason. I also found it made my bub constipated so we've stopped using it now even though he has reflux.
P.S. the thickened feeds did not make my bub sleep more! :p
