Hi - thought I would try and distract myself from our ill i am feeling.
Does anyone out there have theory on whether morning sickness is worse if you are having a girl as opposed to boy or vice versa?

This is my second pregnancy and with first pregnancy I had a girl and very mild ms. This time (currently at 7weeks) have what I would rate as severe 24hr ms.

I read somewhere is worse if you are carrying a girl/or twins. Maybe that is just an old wives tale!!

Love to hear from you.

The old wives tales say it's worse with a girl (from memory). I had 2 boys & shocking morning sickness!

I had a girl - with moderate ms. Now i am having a boy and am still throwing up on the odd occasion at 22weeks, despite still taking Zofran. My sis was mildly sick with her DS, but is now preg with DD3 and has been much sicker than in prev pregnancies. I rekon it's just pot-luck!

my DS i was nauseous everyday from 9 weeks to 16 weeks, only vomited once though - took ginger tablets and they didn't do anything for the nausea.

my DD i threw up everyday from 9 weeks to 16 weeks. i couldn't stand the smell of meat cooking. but fruit tingle lollies helped when travelling in the car, as long as i ate one after the other i would be alright, if i stopped or didn't have any - puke again

after DD i knew that i would never ever be going through the morning sickness episodes again (so no more babies here)

well i personally had two boys had a little sickness just that hung over feeling then waited five years went back had a girl and was sick as a dog for the whole damn time. i found out i was having a girl..i had to be put in hospital three times for fluid as i couldnt hold anything down. i passed out off the toilet and put my hips out for the whole time they hurt..they were out by 2.5 cm..so i had one leg longer than the other literally...i passed out in the myers toilets and had to bang on the wall to get the lady in the next toilet to go and get someone to call my hubby so he could come and get me hehe..so i had an awful time with my third and i can only blame it on her being a girl...

little angels...hehe

I had MS with DD but not much aside, from a bit of nausea, with DS's.

I was just wandering about this myself. With Sarah I was horribly "seasick" for most of the first and second trimesters, though I actually threw up only a half a dozen times.

I don't know what this baby is yet, but so far (touch wood) I haven't had any m/s at all.

I have 3 boys and mine have all been different... with DS1 i had no sickness or nausea whatsoever...
DS2 i had nausea in the evenings
and DS3 i had bad morning sickness (or should i call it all day sickness) for the first trimester... well a bit over that.
I lived by the toilet practically the whole time :(

So in my case... there is no theory at all :)

I think it is differnt for each woman. My mum was always sicker when carrying boys and my sisiter was sicker carrying girls. I was a little sick with my girl but definately sicker with this one (don't know what it is), I didn't throw up more but I felt nauseous most mornings until well past lunch.

With DD I had mildish morning sickness that lasted from 6 weeks to 14 weeks, but with DS I had severe morning sickness 24/7 for about 4 months from 6 weeks.

i know with my son i had morning sickness all day and night till i was about 4 months pregnant and after that i had bad heart burn.

with this one (currently 17 weeks) i have had nothing at all.

someone once told me that if you drink a glass of oj as soon as you get up before you do anything and you cant stomach it it means the baby will be a boy..

how true this is im not sure..
i know when i was pg with my son i couldnt drink oj cos it made me :barf: .
i know one thing though i can drink it now...
maybe its another sign.. ill let you know how the theory works for me..

not that it will prove anything.. hehehe :ecomcity:

I had morning sickness all through my pregnancy with Hayley (stopped a week before I gave birth) and shes a girl (obvously) this one I am 21 weeks and still have my head over the toilet bowl, we're not 100% sure of the sex but it looks like girl so far, but we'll see what happens.

I had no ms with DD, but 8yrs later have spent much of the last 29wks constantly feeling ill, and regularly throwing up for the first 16wks (including my wedding night!!)

Another theory I've heard is that your own pregnancies can be similar to your mother's... my mum had two girls, no ms, and one boy, constantly throwing up until the week before he was born!!

Some of my friends had none with girls and threw up with boys, others had it constantly with boys, not girls. Unfortunately it's the luck of the draw, and very hard if, like me, you are allergic to maxolon!!

I was sick up until about 20 weeks and still was getting sick after that on random days during the week. Have only been better now - I am just over 29 weeks but still get nauseous occasionally - we are having a girl btw...

Anyway, I found that fairy floss helped of all things!

I put on the most weight in first 12 weeks as all I could eat was junk food but I had to eat something.

I have had a girl & am now carrying a boy. Now, (and please don't hate me for this! :)) I appear to be one of these lucky ones who doesn't suffer much from ms. I have had a slight queasiness for a couple of weeks during the first trimester each time and that was it.

My mum too - she had a boy, then me, then another boy. With myself & my older brother she had no ms at all - but had shocking ms with my younger brother.

I fully believe that it is more to do with the actual PG than whether you are carrying a boy or a girl.

I had hyperemesis (which is like an extreme form of morning sickness) during both my pregnancies. I was unable to get out of bed, each very much, drink water, shower etc etc. In my second pregnancy I lost 13 kgs. I have two beautiful girls. Interestingly, my sister is currently 14 weeks pregnany and she too has hyperemesis. Apparently there is a genetic link. I have done quite a lot of research into the gender of offspring of those women who have hyperemesis. There does seem to be consensus that you are more likely to have a female baby (obviously this is not absoute). Something to do with higher levels of oestrogen. I thought this was very interesting!! My sister has always felt she would have sons, so it will be interesting too see which sex she has.

I had severe MS with both my children, however I would say slightly worse with my DS (maybe due to not being able to rest with a active 2yr old in the house). Both my pregnancies were so similar I thought I was having another girl.

Hi, same here. first baby daughter, almost no m/s. this second baby - 9wks - severe m/s 24/7!!

The old wifes tale is if your carrying a girl or twins as M/S has alot to due with hormones. The higher your hormones are the sicker you are. They say when your carrying a girl your hormones re higher and the same with twins..

My first was a girl and I suffered HG with my boy I was sick and lost wieght but nothing like dd. With this pregnancy it has been inbetween the first 2 and I don't know what sex the baby is yet!!

Ive always gone with the theory that really bad m/s means a girl and i usually am right more then wrong. Of course there is no exact sience to it but its fun guessing on your own theory and then finding out if your right or not. :yelclap:

I think it depends on the actual person.
I've had one of each, With my daughter and son I didnt get sick at all I barely knew I was pregnant until I felt kicking. Im pregnant with my 3rd (30 Weeks) a girl again and I found that I was a bit queezy but never vomiting

I think it is an old wives tale as I have both and really didn't have morning sickness only a bit of nausea but they were both pretty much of a muchness.

i was first pg with twin boys and luckily had no ms, (a bit car sick for a couple of days) this time I was soooooo sick, for weeks, day and night and I'm having a girl. My friends reckon ms is more severe with girls and in my case i'd have to agree

Baby Boy 1- So severe was morning sickness( all day sickness) with me that i required hospitalisation due to severe dehydration.
Baby Boy 2- Still severe morning sickness but it did get better after week 16.
Baby Boy 3- Still severe morning sickness but i was able to control it better by having a :barf: first thing in the morning and then going and eating straight away.
My father-in-law said if i have anymore hes leaving town.

I don't think it has anything whatsoever to do with gender. I have had no m/s and a girl, little m/s and another girl and severe m/s and having another girl!

It doesnt have anything to do with the gender, i was told on thursday by the australian baby whisperer thats its all **** also the way you carry doesnt mean anything either.

I have had three pregnancies and all have been totally different in terms of morning sickness.
With ds1 i had quite bad m/s i was sick all thie time and couln't keep a whole lot down.
With ds2 very minimal, i was just nauseous and never actually threw up. With the twins i was so sick i could barely move, the couch was my best friend for the first 14 weeks lol.
