View Full Version : Sling for Older Baby...
Hoping someone can help me...
We are thinking of buying a sling to carry our DS around in. He LOVES being cuddled and there are times it would be easier then driving the pram around in crowds etc... Also, he is wanting to be cuddled a little bit more at the moment and DH and I are starting to struggle with 11.6kgs of beautiful but chubby baby boy!!!
Can anyone recommend a sling we could buy?
He 10.5 mths and is well on his way to 12kgs.
I am also pretty small - okay, very short, so something that would suit someone who is height challenged as well as my DH who is average height would be great!

we have sling called Bubbamoe..the web site is www.bubbamoe.com.au...I love it and can be used until bub is 17kgs...
there are alot of slings on the market, but just make sure the material is nice and has adjustable strap so your hubby can use it too.....
some slings have alot of material and are very fiddly.....the bubba moe cost $80 from Babies Galore and comes in lots of patterns...we love ours!
I've got a tube type sling that I use with DS and it is great. He is 8.5mths and just over 11kgs and I have no problems carrying him around in it. My sling is homemade to fit so is not adjustable but maybe try a ring sling??

Hey there Sueliz,
[text removed by moderator]a fellow BHubber makes a fantabulous hug-a-bub style carrier and they are great. I bought one from her and have been using it since DS was 9 kgs. He is now nearly 14 months and nearly 13kgs and it is still great. Supports all his weight really well. I am pretty short and have back and neck issues so it is great for me. DH loves using it as well, and DS is always happy as in it:thumbsup:    from me!
Give her a PM xx

I too have the wonderful carrier Frazzled is talking about i just cant use it with Boof cause he is too tall so his feet kicked into my knees *ouch*. The weight wouldnt be an issue though as i still use the ring sling i got from a WAHM off ebay.
It means he gets slung onto my hip & i have my arms free. He loves it cause he can cuddle me etc.
Cant use that anymore now either though lol cause im pg again !
But i would say either of these are the way to go for sure
Ergo or Patapum carriers are great for older babies and they are fully supported around your waist so you dont get the stress on your back and shoulders like other slings, you can carry the baby on your front or on your back with them
Thanks so much for your replies!! Will check them all out.
Frazzled and Allyoo - I have PM'ed [name removed by moderator] so thanks for the heads up on that one.
Annb - do you know what maximum weight the Ergo or Patapum carriers can take by any chance? Or where I might be able to find out?
ourfirstbubba - am off to check that website out now.
joe - I know this is going to sound so incredibly stupid, but what is a ring sling??
You can have a look on ozebaby or wahmania (wonderful bubhubber sells ring slings on there)
Ring slings are like a piece of material that are secured with a ring similar to a buckle from how I understand it.
I have a sling and hubby has a sling - bothe pouches. I also have an Ergo. It is suitable for as long as you see fit from my unerstanding - I know someone said they used it til 3 1/2 years.

I have an awesome one called "comfy carry" made/designed by cairns midwifery. It is just great! Nice and padded over the shoulder, is adjustable, easy to use and distributes the weight evenly. I carry DD (who is about 10kg) in it really easily. I bought it because she grew out of her papouse and she loves to be carried too.
the ergo and patapum can be used for ages up to 20kg i believe
they are pretty comfy i have an ergo and you hardly notice you are carrying such a weight!
