My bubs is six and a half months and he just started to crawl yesterday after spending two weeks rocking on his hands and knees. Wow it happened quickly! I am very proud of him he's so active!
But the strange thing is, he can't really sit up, he gets distracted by something that takes his eye and whoops over he goes!
Maybe this is normal, but other babies I've seen his age tend to sit before they crawl. One I saw the other day was sitting on her own playing with toys for like an hour, Xavier can't do that, he would never sit still!!!
Do you think he just might never sit because he's too active or is he just doing things in a different order?
I was sitting at 5months and bum shuffled at 6-7months ( I never crawled).
I'd love to hear other's experiences, and if anyone has had the same sort of thing with their bubs? :)

He sounds very much like DD2. She crawled before she could sit - and started crawling at 6 months. Even now she can't sit still - too much to see and do.

DD1 on the other hand sat for a couple of months before she crawled - so they all do things in their own time. DD1 also didn't climb much and DD2 is a shocker - on the go up on top of things non-stop! So cross your fingers that early crawling doesn't always go with lots of climbing like it did in our case!

Hi Julie
Both my 2 crawled before they could sit. I was told by CHN that some babies won't sit until they could get to sitting by them self.
Like Xavier I think Jacinta and Nathan were more interested in moving around.

My DD is 7mo and sits up very very well. Has been sitting up since 5mo. Yet she hasn't mastered the crawl (rocks on hands and knees) yet she's trying to stand up (falls over). I think they all develop in their own ways. I'm sure he'll catch up soon :)

Thanks guys for that I'm glad he is not unsual in being a crawler before sitting!!!
I received PM from Veronica too in which gave a her profesional opinion on the subject, I just wanted to thank her too for the info. I cant seem to PM everytime I do the program doesn't respond and I have to shut down Bubhub and lose my entire message. Does anyone know what to do about this, is there a section I can post in about it? Sorry to be off the topic!!!

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to say that my 7 mth old doesn't sit unsupported either, but has just started crawling (3 days ago). All the other babies  at his playgroup sit unsupported & I am starting to get worried. I have ask the CHN & she said that all babies are different, but its just not fair :( how much truth is there to the old saying 'boys are slower than girls' ? Because 95% of his playgroup friends are girls & they all sit up straight & pretty !!! Am i just being silly or should i take the matter further?? Please help

Kristy ... every child develops completely differently and if you look at your beautiful boy, there will be some things that he is a lot better at doing than the ones that are sitting unsupported.

I wouldn't worry just yet ... there are some babies who don't sit until around 12 months old and there is nothing wrong with them. You may find that he will do everything in the course of a couple of weeks like my bub's did ... sitting, crawling, pulling up on furniture and starting to cruise around it! (just don't let him add climbing out of his cot like my kids!)

All this said ... if you are worried, take him to see your doc or the chn ... their job is to help us in our parenting journey and they should be more than happy to put your mind at ease!

Hi Kristy! I posted this thread two weeks ago when my son was crawling but not sitting up. Well it might please you to hear that he is now sitting up very well! I think that it all falls into place once they start to move, so I'll bet your boy will be sitting in no time just like mine is. He is actually doing very well to be crawling at this age so dont fret, be proud of him !
