We used to be in a really good sleep routine and then once DS was able to get up in the cot, it went out the window. We had to start rocking him to sleep for his day sleeps, and now he is so big we have been using a cot sheet.

Our aim for the holidays was to get out of the bad habit of rocking to sleep and lose the wrap.

It ain't working... He just gets up wants to party.

We are not into the CC thing. I don't know what to do??? I feel so incompetent!

Help?

:hugs: babies have minds of their own when it comes to routine. As I once heard "babies don't read the parenting books"

I don't know what to say for E's situation, for us with Isi, CC worked wonders, it only took 2-3 nights and she was great! Sorry to rave about something you don't want to do, but from our experience, it was the best thing for her and our sanity.

:hugs:

Hey Frazzled

How old is your DS??
Our DS has just started to need to be held to sleep again as well which is something we hadn't needed to do in a very long time. I think in our case though it is that he is teething. (And not just a couple of teeth - he has had about 8 teeth come through or trying to cut through in the past 5 weeks! Poor little man. And some are out of the 'typical' order which I have heard can actually be more painful)

how many sleeps does he have in the day. Isi is up to 2-3 sleeps, but slowly fazing out the morning one.
Maybe he's just readjusting his schedule? it's quite common once they reach 1 to drop a sleep.

Hi Sue, he is 13.5 months. He has just cut his first 2 teeth. This all started for us at about 9 months when he stopped going to sleep on his own cause he wanted to have a party in his cot! Your poor little man xx

We have 2 sleeps one, 2.5 hours after he wakes in the am and then another one at about 2.30pm. We thought about dropping the second one but he still really needs it. Days we have tried have been a nightmare!

I shouldn't giggle at this - but I have images of your little man in a James Bond type get up inviting people to come and 'party at his crib'....

I can see why you are getting exhausted of a day time then with this if it started at 9 mths!!! I wish I could give some fabulous suggestion, but all I can do is :fingerscrossed: he will go back to self settling of a day soon for you!

Could it be seperation anxiety? I have heard that mentioned a few times before as a reason bubs stop self settling....

Ha shouldn't have taken a sip of my tea as I read that! Too funny!!!

Yeah, it really probably is a mix of bad habits for too long and separation anxiety as he is fine while in the room but as soon as you walk out, screams!

I know this doesn't help your situation but I rock my 11 month old to sleep in the pram for every single day sleep. Please don't feel incompetent - all babies need different methods of settling and you will find something you're comfortable with.
