OK so I am not sure how reliable this information is (I heard it on the Chris & Craig show on Triple J - but they said they saw it in the paper)

APPARENTLY a couple who gave birth to a daughter last week has named her..... MAKYBE.

The more I say it out loud, the nicer it sounds - but I just don't know about naming a little girl after a horse...!

What do y'all think? I think it does sound nice, it's not a horrible sounding name or anything like that. I just think it's...... a bit odd.....

(PS if the parents of little Makybe are Bubhub-bers, no personal offense is meant. :))

lol queen, your right, the more you say it out loud the nicer it sounds :) maybe she was born around the time of the race, and they felt it was a fitting tribute? maybe dad is a big horse racing fan? not my cup of tea to name a child after a racehorse either, but i've seen worse lol

Yes it is a pretty name. Lets hope nobody names their child after Seabiscuit though

There is a poster on here that is going to name her daughter when born Nova Star. There is a race horse called Nova Star. I am obviously reading too much of the wrong things - bubhub and form guides!

HHmmm, I think it depends on the horses name. My husband wants to call our babe Imogen (if a girl). We have a racefilly in the paddock called Imogen! Depends on the name but Makybe is sounding sweet.

I love it, and they can only hope that the child grows up to be as talented as the famous mare! Maybe she'll grow up to be a runner? :D

Apparently mum got the idea for my name from a racehorse she won money on! And i also grew up to love horses!

I hate to admit this but I was actually named after a racehorse..........Argh makes me cringe just writing it!

Apparently mum and dad fought for 3 days after having me about my name, so my Grandad suggested Shannara, a horse he had just won money on  !

You can see now where my nickname comes from!

Oh and by the way, I'm a huge horse-lover!

My daughter's middle name is Rose and so is our horse! he he (we didn't name the horse if that makes it any better, mmm no i guess not!)

My other horse is Sammy - I looove that name but he's 25 so everyone who knows me knows Sammy so I wouldn't use it for jnr!

Better than being named after the girl at the deli like I was ...

Shannon your mother must have been at the same race as my parents because i also got named after a race horse named Shannon. My parents loved the name when they saw it though they had a few discussions on the final say of things as mum wanted marie as a middle name but thought that Shannon Marie sounded like a drink you would order from the bar (Im still confused about how she thought that). Shannon Marie won out though in the end. So yeh i got named after a race horse and its not as bad a you might think though im sure glad that it was a nice simple name. I too love horses and always wanted one of my own but we never had the room or money for one but now that my parents have 6.5 acers and no childern living at home dad wants to buy a pony for Bubba Squirt so hopefully he or she grows to like horses too.

Whatever we name our children someone will have a comment on it Dh has picked Keisha if we have a girl and i have picked Xander for a boy and people look at as if we are from another plannet and say things like gee thats going to be hard for your child having strange names but hey i dont like the idea of adding another David or Jane to the world (sorry to all the Davids and Janes out there) but when you work for a company that has 6 Davids all in contact whith each other almost daily you wish that their parents had some imagination when picking out their names.

being named after a horse wouldnt be too bad but imagine poor little Bindi Sue named after her dads favorite crocodile and the middle name was from his staffy dog?? Poor little Bindi sue Irwin.

Going by that logic my next baby would be Tucker Back-ho named after my dog and my cat poor little tike or if it was a girl I could have Felicity Schmelcombe once again dog and cat lol

My dad's dog (border collie) is named Tucker! But he is named after Michael Tuck the Hawthorn foortball player. Interesting though is his prefix-Drovers, so his full name is Drovers tucker.

My dad was leading apprentice jockey in melbourne - was a trainer by the time I was born, and my mum was a track worker who grew up loving horses.

I wasn't named after a horse - but a still born baby of one of the girls mum worked with (that still freaks me out abit, but mum continues to reassure me that its because she liked the name). My sister was named by dad and I know it had something to do with horses, but I don't think it was after one.

I find it facinating why people name their kids what they do. My dh was all set to be an Aaron, but his dad was served by a nice attendant at a servo a day or two before he was born, so they changed his name to the servo attendants at the last minute.

Personally, coming from a family with a strong back ground, I can safely say that I would not name my bubs after a horse - but if I found one later down the track that had the same name, I'd have a good laugh!

BTW - I think that Nora Star and Makybe are both pretty names (even if you didn't know that Nora Star was a horses name, BubbleBelly) :)

All of the race horses are usually pretty in a horsey kind of way. Next time I see it is running I will put a dollar each way on it for you!!

I don't think there is anything wrong with naming your bub after hearing a name you like no matter where is from. Because the name will change for you completely when it's 'thier' name if that makes sense. I named my son Noah Joseph which seems extreemly religious, but the Noah we just really liked and Joseph was in memory of my grandad. But it's Noah's name and thats what it means to us. Does that make sense?

Anyway I think Makybe is a nice name. I would consider spelling it differently maybe Makaibe? It's a pretty name though
