has anyone used the family birthing centre at the mercy hospital in heidelberg??
Depends whether you are a private patient or public at Mercy - I was a private patient there this year and the only benefit I got out of it was my own OB and a single room (although my friend who was a private patient had to share!) and then we get slapped with all the extra fees so IMHO going private there isn't really worth it but as a public patient it is :D
(there needs to be a private section to make it worthwhile and there isn't unlike other maternity hospitals)
Re- Family Birth Centre: I am actually booked in with them at the moment and the midwives there are fantastic. The only main difference is that they are obviously midwife run and prefer the "natural" way of pregnancy and birth so they don't do medical interventions. If you have a relatively easy pregnancy and don't have complications then it's good otherwise you will be transferred out - they have a 40% transfer rate (most of them being first time mothers, inductions and people wanting epidurals which they don't do)
Having had an OB for my first pregnancy I am finding the FBC very different (everything is about choice and they don't sign off for every medical test). I have heard good things about the FBC but most of the people I know didn't get to birth there due to being transferred out - one was due to having to be induced and the other had to have a c-section. (don't know why with the others - I guess if a doctor needs to intervene then you get transferred out to the public birthing suites).
Hope this helps and good luck!!

I'm thinking about going to Mercy too after bad first experience at RWH. Mercy is quite new and friends say there are double beds with only 2 per room which sounds nice.
At RWH I had a snorer and a mother rejecting her baby. I'm sure that's possible anywhere though. I didn't like the communal toilets/showers....blood everywhere, yuk!
I think at Mercy there are toilets and bathrooms in each shared room.
I would love to go to the birthing centre...private and home like, but I have complications.
