Ok so this might seem like a stupid question but I plan to use cloth nappies for my DS due on 10 May.

I have been reading through some of the other threads and I have been getting completely lost about what I need and don't need.

Can anyone shed some light?

i would suggest getting a trial pack to start...do u know which sort u are going to use? Like pockets, fitteds, AIO's, flats?? babybeehinds have a trial pack for fitteds, greenkids have a pack for pockets. They would be the two starting points that i would suggest. Although Greenkids might be a bit bulky on a newborn. If ure planning on using flats bummis has a kit for newborn-7kg inc covers for $220:thumbsup: you can get that from darlingsdownunder or nurturenappies

Hi - I am new to it all too - my DS is due on 7th May!!

What you need depends on what type you want to go with. I ordered a combination trial pack from baby beehinds (they are a fitted nappy) (just google for the website) and am using them on DD to get a feel for them. It comes with covers, inserts, nappies - i got one hemp one bamboo, and one of each type of cover. Basically everything you need to test a fitted nappy system, so you don't need to worry if you have all the right stuff. I am also going to buy a green kids trial pack when i save some more $$.(green kids are a pocket nappy - i think, so a nappy that doesn't need a separate cover, but has a pocket for stuffing with absorbent matreials)

I am also keeping an eye on the names everyone talks about here & looking on ebay, and will get some to try if they are cheap - just to see if i might prefer a different type of nappy.

I suggest getting trial packs as suggested. For a newborn flats or prefolds are alo a greart idea as its inexpensive with all the early frequent nappy changes.
Feel free to ask qs - it can be overwhelming and no question is stupid. Hubby said to me the other day - "No such thing as a stupid question, only a stupid answer" Hmm !~

ok now I got the terminology down and made some decisions about the types I want to use.

I am thinking probably a flat nappy with a fleece liner and PUL cover.

Now I don't really like to shop online as I like to see the product before I buy so does anyone know anywhere in Brisbane that would sell these things.

I know that I can get the flat nappies for Target etc so not too worried about that but what about the covers and liners?

Not sure about cloth supplies in Bris. I just bought some fleece from Lincraft today. $10 for 1 and 1/2 mtrs. Just cut into liners yourself, no need to hem.

If i was you, i'd get a couple of metres (or less, you probably won't need that much) of microfleece from your closest fabric shop, and cut into nice big rectangles to pop in your terry flats as liners. These keep bubs bum feeling nice and dry.
As for the covers, i'd steer clear of the cheappie department store covers (like Target, KMart, Big W, etc) as i tried them and found that the way that they're sewn, the hook part of the velcro rubs on bubs thighs, causing them to go red raw! I didn't use them after i discovered that...
Can you or anyone in your family knit? Wool soakers are the best cover around and that way you wouldn't have to worry about not seeing them before you buy, as you can pick out the wool and choose whatever pattern you like best. There are heaps of free patterns on the net - i found heaps and just picked the ones i thought looked like a good fit. If you start now, you'll get a few made before bubs born.
As an afterthought, even if you don't know how to knit, buy a knitting book (not pattern - but a tutorial type one) and they show great pics to teach you. Other than that, there are video's and pics on the net to teach you. It's not too hard to learn and once you have done a couple of rows, you'll have no probs.
Good luck with your cloth journey and keep us updated. HTH:D

I havn't seen pul covers anywhere other then online, sorry.

But the nappy retaillers have good picutres. I'll pm you with more links!

Some good covers include Bummis (the Super Whisper Wrap is popular), Motherease Airflow and Tots Bots wraps. Some have applix (a high-quality type of velcro) and others have snaps.

Now I don't really like to shop online as I like to see the product before I buy so does anyone know anywhere in Brisbane that would sell these things.

Biome is currently the only store that I know of in Qld that stocks modern cloth.
The other option is to have a product demonstrator come to your home and talk to you about cloth. There are a few sellers that have these and generally there is no obligation to buy but if you do choose to buy than you can order directly through them. Companies that come to mind are Baby BeeHinds, Natures Cradle, Nurture Nappies.
