I don't know what to do. My 7 month old is really tired and due for a sleep. The bedrooms are upstairs and it gets really hot up there. It is a hot day in Melbourne and far too hot to wrap him but he won't settle. He just rolls over and crawls around. He won't let me rock him. What should I do? He is used to be wrapped to sleep. Thanks

AHHH Poor you :(

Do you have a porta cot you could pop him in downstairs?

Downstairs is not that much cooler. Being open aswell means there is not a quiet spot to put him. He only has 20min sleeps when he is downstairs. After an hour and a half of him crawling around his cot he started to get upset so I picked him up and he started to fall asleep in my arms. I put him down and he tried to roll again (seems to be an automatic thing) so I had to sort of hold him till he finally fell asleep. I don't know how long he will sleep though. Will see I guess.

Poor little mite!

If he doesn't sllep well today, he might tonight!!

I do hope you get a bit of a break!!

Have you tried wrapping him in just a sheet with no clothes (except nappy?)
Might help?

singlet and nappy and then wrapped in a muslin wrap which is very light and cool - perfect for summery conditions!

If it is hot again tomorrow I might have to try that and see how hot he gets. I have been wrapping him in a sheet lately with just a bodysuit and shorts but may have to just leave a nappy on. Thanks. :) Otherwise it may be time to persevere and try weaning him from wrapping. See how we go.

I was given the suggestion once of hanging a wet towel near the cot and letting the breeze (or a fan) blow towards it. Instant cooling in the immediate area. Just dont' have the fan blowing directly towards bub as he might get too chilled. We often used a pedestal fan in bubs room the first summer she was born. Just getting the air moving helps a bit and the wet towel helps more.

Thanks MarthaM I will give that a try if it is hot again tomorrow. Will have to remember that one. We have a ceiling fan and a pedastal fan.

A day or so of being unsettled won't hurt your baby. A damp sheet to sleep on can be good, the fan nearby but not pointing at him. A damp cloth wiped over him as he's lying down will also help. My son slept naked on the couch today in the loungeroom. He seemed pretty cool :)
