I have a 19 month old who just loves her pram but at the most inconvienent times decides she'd like to walk, when did you let your toddlers walk beside you and keep the pram and when did you scrap the pram all together?

I didn't start leaving the stroller behind til after DD was born, DS was almost 3yrs old. I stopped using the pram when DS was about 18mths old coz it was easier to push the little, light, stroller while holding his hand, or I could let DS stand in a trolley and hang the stroller on the side.

My DS has just turned 2 and a half and we have just scrapped the stroller. About 3 months ago, we trialled him a few times and he is a 'bolter' so would simply take off and not stop or come back.

We've worked on this a lot and he now holds our hands the majority of the time. If we are in a safe area where he can run, he has learnt to stop when we ask him to.

It was an easy decision to ditch the stroller as his broke a couple of weeks ago and at this age, I'm not sure if we should bother buying another.

Andrew isn't a huge fan of the stroller, so I tended to just carry him or pop him in a trolley when he was younger. Ever since he was walking steadily, I've let him down to walk with me wherever we are, for as long as he likes, as long as he behaves and holds my hand.

He's 22 months now and quite good at the shops with walking along with me, and for the most part, not getting into mischief. He knows the result of mischief is being carried or put in a trolley...so it works for us.

I don't even bother to put the stroller in the car most of the time now...unless I know we are going to be gone for quite a while and he might get tired enough to sit in it!

well, alone my kids are angels, but get them together and they run off and hide:rolleyes: so I try to have at least one in a pram when I can (there 4 and 2 BTW) they both hate the pram.

I also have a harness for DS he wears when we walk to school. he has absolutely no idea about safety at all, he just keeps running.

DD is 17 months, and she walks for short bursts of time. She gets too tired to walk for long... but I let her out every now and then.

We have a lightweight stroller, and it's so much easier that way. I can push it easily with one hand whilst holding onto her wrist with the other.

I won't scrap the stroller for ages yet - we always go on LONG shopping trips (a min of half a day each time), so she'll be bound to get tired at some point/.

I stopped using the pram when jayce was about 18mth he just walked whenever we got out of the car...but i tried to not spend too much time at shops...

i did however use the jogging pram for him to sit in so i could exercise until bub was born and now she sits in it and he rides his bike when i exercise. It ust became a hassle getting it in and out of the car all the time too.
