I know a few of the men on board Tobruk - best wishes and safe travels to all those affected by this deployment... This is the same operation my husband's ship participated in earlier in the year.

HMAS TOBRUK DEPARTURE FROM SYDNEY TO TRANSPORT EQUIPMENT TO THE MIDDLE EAST

What: Royal Australian Navy amphibious ship, HMAS Tobruk, will depart her
homeport at Fleet Base East, Sydney, for passage to the Middle East to deliver
Australian military stores and equipment and take on further equipment in the
Middle East for return to Australia.

Where: Fleet Base East, Cowper Wharf Road, Woolloomooloo, Sydney.

When: 10:00am on Thursday 28 December 2006.

Time: 9:15am. Media to assemble at the ADI gate of Fleet Base East, at the
Intersection of Wylde Street and Cowper Wharf Road, Woolloomooloo. Photographic
identification will be required.

Who: Commanding Officer of HMAS Tobruk, Commander Michael Rothwell, RAN and his
145 ship’s company will be farewelled by Maritime Commander Australia, Rear
Admiral Davyd Thomas, AM, CSC, RAN.

Media Opportunities: Opportunity for vision and stills of ship’s departure only.
There will not be any formal ceremony.

The amphibious landing ship, HMAS Tobruk, with her heavy lift capability, will
provide sealift for Australian military stores and equipment in support of
operations in the Middle East and Afghanistan. Tobruk will passage to Fremantle
prior to transit to the Middle East.
This deployment is part of Operation Catalyst, the Australian Defence Force’s
contribution to the rehabilitation and stabilisation of Iraq.
