Hi again,
I've been feeding MJ solids for around 3 weeks now & have an issue. All she'll eat is potato, pumpkin & carrot. Won't eat fruit or farex.
She is still bf so has never had a problem pooing, other than only going once a week. Since feeding solids she was going every 4 days until last tuesday when she did nothing for a week and just now went again. She strained & went red in the face & cried :( It took about 30mins to do, and was so much firmer than normal.
Is there anything i can give her to help her go? Any veg that you think will help.
Thanks
RB
My DS went through this when he started solids too. I think starting the solids in combination with warm weather can make it a little worse.
I don't want to worry you but I would get straight onto it. I went to see my doctor after a week and he started DS on Coloxyl drops, they didn't work that great to start with and we then had an Xray. Even after only that short period of time, DS was completely clogged!
It took ages for the coloxyl to start working and all I was feeding him was peas, other vegies and breastmilk. We had to use an enema to get him going. Sorry my case might be a bit extreme!
Maybe even back off the solids for a bit and try and get as much breastmilk into her as possible.
Go and see your dr, to get it sorted.
DS eventually got over it and now he gets runny poo from too much fruit and veg. Go figure??

I'm going to go to the clinic tomorrow, its closer than the Dr & no waiting. Sorry if TMI but She wasn't really constipated, just alot firmer than normal. What an adult would call loose YKWIM? By the end it was softer so i'm hoping that the it was just an initial blockage.
I'll definately keep my eye on it cause i've had problems with my bowel (bleeding) and my mum has air pockets in her bowel (can't remember the technical term).
Thanks
RB
That was why I initially didn't worry about it too much with DS, because he did go and it wasn't pellets, but it wasn't really squishy like normal (hope that makes sense!)
It must be a shock to their little systems starting solids!!
I'm pretty sure they will tell you to get coloxyl, you can buy it over the counter.
Hope all is well, fill me in tomorrow!! :)

Her poos will harder than b/f poos because her body is taking all teh nurtirents (sp??? I know ;) just can't think tonight) out of the solids and only leaving the waste. Keep an eye on it, ask your CHN tomorrow, and I'm sure she will be fine.

Here's the latest.
Went to the clinic today and they said to keep my eye on it. I've been told to give her a little boiled water everyday. I went out & got her a heinz baby cup which she's gotten the hang of already :p
They also said that I should really try to get some fruit into her, even peel a whole orange & let her chew on it while keeping a very close eye on her so that she gets some fibre. I'll try banana & pear as she's not a fan of apples. Also said to maybe stew some prunes & put 1tsp juice into her water.
About an hour ago she used her bowels again & it was a much better consistency, more like it used to be. Where else is this an acceptable topic of conversation
Thanks again
RB
I am so glad it is getting better, and isn't like my horror story.
I did the diluted prune juice too. Forgot about that.
It is so weird though because my DS will now get the runs at the drop of a hat!!
He can't drink any juice at all because it gives him really runny poos.
You DD is so cute! I am so happy she is back on track, I can't imagine being constipated in this weather is much fun!!

Thanks for that :D. Your DS is gorgeous too.
Do you have any recommendations on what veg will make her go, just in case?
RB
Peas were really good for us, but they are a bit of a pain to prepare.
It's funny the different tastes they like, my DS can't get enough fruit! But he is not so into the vegies anymore.
Rather than the veg, I would really concerntrate on her liquids. I think 'drowning' the constipation works really well. :p
Have a good night!
