what do you do. say for instance you need to go to the drs but your baby isnt due for a feed for 2 hrs. what would you do, i mean you never know how long youd be waiting to get in at the drs. i know you can phone ahead but still then youd have to rush a feed if they were on time etc. can't exactly give the baby a cold bottle of formula while out.

My problem is my son will be starting pre school in 5 wks time and im stressing about how im going to juggle getting us all ready in time to leave the house by 8.30 and then on one of the days i will have my drs appt at 9.30 so i wont be able to come home before hand.

im such a worry wart:confused:

DS1 was bottle fed, and i never warmed up his bottles so it was really never a problem.
Water in a thermos sounds like the go, also, most places have a microwave, you could ask them just to quickly zap in there to warm it up, i am sure they won't mind

If i know theres going to be a microwave around i dont bother heating the bottles before i go...

But if there isn't....

I heat a bottle up, so that its more hot than it should be when i give it to her (say i usually do 20 seconds for 200mls in the mircowave, when i go out i'll do 40 seconds) Then i keep it in a bottle warmer bag and its always been the perfect temperature just when i need it. But if you know you will need the water sooner rather than later, dont over-do the heating time.

Invest in a formula container... You just measure out the required amount and take it with you. You just add it to the water when bub is ready for a feed.

I worried too before the bub was here about all this kind of stuff, but you really do figure it out once the baby arrives  :hugs:

Sorry...I BF so no problems with that. Milk on tap whenever/wherever at exactly the right temperature.

I think most FF mums take a bottle with boiled water in a warm bag or maybe in a thermos. And take a little container with the right amount of formula ready to tip in....

It seems like a hassle though...

Yep that would be a hassle, which is why I never did that. I just took a made up bottle where ever we went.

When dd was ff i used to just put the formula in a special container with the right amount of formula you can get the containers from, Big W, Kmart ,Woolies etc. , and also boiling hot water in the bottle it would be cool enough for when she is due for a feed.

yeah its much easier that way but not always possible. i used to do that with the ones that could be made up ahead of time but then ds had to change formula and this one cant be made up ahead of time, if i know he wont need it for a long time i just boil the water b4 i go out so it will still be warm when i need it, but if u do that make sure u also have cold/cool water in case its too hot when you need it!

oh and if your worried about being ready in time make sure all the things that can be packed in bags and done ahead of time are done the night b4, will save a lot of stress 1st thing in the morning!

I never heated the bottles to begin with.

Maybe just make a bottle to take with u. If the baby is hungry enough they'll take it without heating.

Your baby will just learn to adapt nxt yr...

I give room temp bottles, they suggested it at the hosp, so that bubs didn't know any different. I just add the formula from the specially designed formula containers which has the right amount in it, when she's due so it's fresh. But if your bub won't take a room temp bottle, most nappy bags have the insulated bottle pocket oor holder, and that should keep it warm for a little while. You'll work it out, things always do.

Taking 2 bottles - one with boiling water, the other room temp and mixing them can also work.
Not sure if this next suggestion is a good one or not as DD was b/fed until 11months, but on the days where you have your appt could you do a top-up feed at 8am before you left home? Just give bubs 1/2-3/4 of the usual feed to keep satisfied until you get home? It's what i used to do with DD if i knew we were going to be somewhere where a b/f would be difficult.

I heat up the bottle of water before we go out and add the formula when needed.

When DS was being comp feed he got his bottles at room temp, heating up the bottles was never an issue.

thanks, he screws up his face if there too cold. i used to do the boiling water thing years ago i think thats what im going to have to do and if its too cold when i need it well too bad hopefully he will take it.

i prefer not to do top up feeds as it puts their routine out i find but if i have to i have to.

I shoudn't be too cold for him, it's not like it's coming out of a fridge, just comfortable, I'm sure he'll take it and hey, he may get used to it and you won't need to warm them anymore. I don't premake bottles to take out, cause the hosp told me you shouldn't give formula after an hour of being made. (obvioulsy if you put it in the fridge and warm it it's ok-but not if it's kept at room temp, but then you're not supposed to micro mixed formula:confused: )
I'm sure it will all work out for you. I'm with you on the routine thing tho. Me and M are routine girls.
