Hi
I am 34 weeks pregnant and went for my check up this morning and the midwife told me that my baby has dropped. She said this doesnt usually happen till about 37 weeks so she is sending me for an ultrasound on Friday morning just to check everything is ok.
Has this happened to anyone else? Did you end up having your baby early?
Thanks

Hi MLN,
Firstly is this your first or subsequent child?
I am 33 weeks tomorrow and had my 32 weeks check up on friday and the OB told me that the baby is down. The OB told me that with subsequent children it is normal for them to start to engage sooner then 36-37 weeks.

i wouldn't worry too much. my baby engaged at 30 weeks, and i did go into labour at 35 weeks, but after hospital and bed rest it stopped and only had really strong braxtons until due date when went into labour again and had him the following morning! so everyone is so different and a baby can be engaged for weeks before it comes. many babies born from 34 weeks on are more than fine, so don't worry!!!! worry is what will be bad for you and bub. so try to keep your chin up!

Hi Everyone
Thanks for your replies. This is my second pregnancy. My DD was born 6 days late but there was no problems at all.
The midwife told me because I have been picking up and holding my daughter alot lately that it might be the reason the baby has dropped so early.
I dont actually mind if the baby comes a couple of weeks early (I didnt really want a christmas baby anyway) but I need to start getting organised. I havent packed my hospital bag yet and still need some stuff for when the baby does arrive.
Thanks for all your help

Natalie,
My EDD is also very closed to xmas 22/12 and I havent started packing my bag yet either. Every time i attempt to something else comes up and it gets put to the bottom of the list but I am making a point of getting it done this week as I have been having alot of BH and strong ones at times too so I think i need to get my bag packed just in case DS decides to come early.
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.
Babies engage at all different times for all different reasons but none of them would be a good reason for an u/s. It's perfectly normal and healthy. If you've been squatting to pick up your older child you may have encouraged it to happen but provided your baby is in a lovely anterior position, there's no issue at all. Even if bubs isn't anterior you can still move them at this point.

JanetF,
If the baby is already head down are you able to feel if he/she turns. My mum said that she felt my brother turn a few times in the last week of her pregnancy.

My son's head was engaged at 34 weeks and my GP said not to worry. He ended up coming a month early! He was perfectly happy and healthly was in NICU for 10 days to establish feeding and he's perfect - not that I'm biased or anything :)
You can absolutely feel them moving :)
Try this to establish for yourself where your baby is and keep them anterior.

Hi MLN,
DD engaged at about 34 - 35 weeks, but I ended up being induced at 41 weeks.
I hope everything goes well for you, soon you'll be meeting your new little darling one! :D
