Hi,
My 4mth old DS has started to get cradle cap. I have tried gently massage with a little bit of baby oil but it doesn't seem to be helping much. Does anyone have any tips?
Will this cause him to lose hair?

My DS is 3 months and has a little bit of cradle cap too. The only thing I know of is rubbing olive oil onto it and leaving it for 15-30 mins then using a gentle baby brush over their head. You then wash their hair in shampoo.
You wont be able to get rid of it all but it will get rid of any flacky bits.
I am not sure about hair loss, a lot of bubs lose thier hair about that age anyway. I don't know if is directly linked to cradle cap or not.

My husbands grandmother told me today that baking soda and a little water will get it right off. My DD has a little cradle cap too, i'm going to try it out tomorrow.
I'll let you all know if it workds or if it's just an old wives tale.
Baking soda (bi carb) works great. But use more water, make it really diluted to start with, to make sure it doesn't react. You can then do it as many times as needed and increase the strength.
Cradle cap is caused by a build up of old skin that they can't shed as quickly as the new ones. The reason they get it on the head is because of the extra oil production. So adding oil can make it worse. But it will ease the dryness and any discomfort temporarily.

My DS's cradle cap was pretty bad and olive oil did zip. Our paediatritian had a special paste made up for it and it was gone in 2 days.
No hair loss -thank goodness, there's not much there to begin with.

great big dollop of petroleum jelly,...smear it on,...leave a couple of hours,..then wipe off with a cloth,....... instantly better,...
ds1 had it i tried everything. ds2 had it middie sugested a bathoil called dermaveen. you put it in their hair leave it overnight and comb it out the next day. it worked a treat. they also say dont wash their hair with shampoo unless you get every bit out. water is fine for bubbas
My DS2 has had cradle cap pretty bad and my sister told me to put baby shampoo in at the start of his bath and leave it in until the end of the bath and then rinse. Well this worked wonders, I didn't have to brush it out or anything and within a couple of weeks it had dissapeared.
