Hi!
I had my first ob visit last week, which I was very excited about (and a bit nervous!), but ended up being very disappointed.
He did a scan and told me my due date, then discussed the nuchal scan and gave me a referral for that and that was it... for $460!!!
Aren't they supposed to do anything else? Or explain everything, like diet, dangers etc.
Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I thought there was more to it than that??
Hope everyone's well,
Thanks!

WOW, i think thats very over priced!!
I dont think you will get a hell of alot of that back from medicare, maybe $60 max......

But my first OB appt was very similar to be honest, however i only got charged $135 with $60 back from medicare.

If you are concerned maybe take a list full of questions next time you go in there, or go to your GP and ask.
Not that you should have to, they should arm you full of info at your first appt IMO.

I havent had my first antenatal app yet but with DS I saw an OB and at my first app he asked about all my family history, disease, illness etc. Asked about my lifestyle- smoking, drinking, exercise etc. Explained what would happen at each visit from then on (Urine tests etc). He did an ultrasound, discussed what hospital I would be giving birth....all that stuff. Sometimes tho if theres something u want to know u have to ask.

I'm going public this time around as I felt that having an Ob wasn't necessary for me and just cost alot of money (Although not as much as u had to pay!!)

i was nearly going to go to an obs, but then i realised they were going to charge me a lot for very little.
I decided against choosing an Obs and was fortunate enough to find a GP who delivers in the hospital I want to give birth in. He works in conjunction with an Obs if the pregnancy ends up more complicated later on (knock on wood). At my first meeting with the GP (9 weeks) he wrote me a referral for an NT scan, suggested ginger and a B6 supplement for my morning sickness, took my weight, blood pressure, looked at my 7 week scan. My next appointment is around 13 weeks to discuss results of the NT scan and check up.
