Did anyone watch Mary Bryant the last 2 nights? I wasn't going to, but turned over at some point and found it interesting....I bawled and bawled when Will got killed and when her kids died on the trip back to England :( ...after all she'd been through and to lose it all....And then to receive a pardon when she got back! They might as well have left her in Timor and then her kids wouldn't have died....
Shows where the kids die always make me cry...never did much before i had mine, but now i see it and think, 'what would i do in that situation, how would i cope?'....Does anyone else feel like that? I would die for my kids and i know all you would too....
Overall i think it was an excellent Australian production, and i thoroughly enjoyed it...being a true story made it even better. Let me know what you guys thought...
Hi Lovey!
I actually watched a bit of it last night, only about 10 minutes though.
I'm on messenger if you're not busy!

I watched that! I bawled when Will and the kids died too, especially when the kids died.. :( It was so sad! A really good movie though...
I watched the whole show and loved it. It was sooooo sad. I was nearly bawling, but dh was sitting beside me murmuring 'silly show' and comments like that! Ah men....... OH well, I still loved it.

Oh no,I havent watched last nights episode yet ! I 'll just have to pretend I didn't read this thread!
Felt kinda sorry for the soldier dude... he loved her and she just used him. He also copped it from his mates over her too.
It was fantastic, I watched it purely cos I am a brit and she is from the next county down from me, + I am a history lurver lol
It was a great production and just so brutal, but seeing it albiet a dramatised TV show it makes you realise that so many of the convicts sent here were for petty crimes and shocking condiditons.
Amazing made me homesick at the end lol and it takes a lot to do that!

Yes an amazing story, it was loosely based on her life but can you imagine how bad the real thing would have been  I cant imagine the suffering they went through. Very sad about her babies :(
We have traced some of my mums family back to the convicts and one of my relatives a Mary Jones was described as being 4 foot 7 with red hair and she was sent to the colonies for stealing a hanky  . Must of been a pretty good hanky LOL to warrant getting shipped off to the other side of the world. She had five children back home in england and she had to leave them all behind. She met and later married a fellow convict Matthew Snow. They had ten kids. Can you imagine giving birth to 15 kids back in the day when there was no medical help
facinating stuff as I love history.
I'm like you Shannon, since having Kids I cannot watch anything where somthing bad happens to Children. I cried after watching Mary Bryant and had the worst nightmares that night!!
Yeah I'm the same too, i watched it & also cried my eyes out when her hubby & kids died. I wouldn't like to think of what i would do if that ***** me my kids are my life.....i always cry when watching things like that. :(

I HATED it.
It was another poor excuse to put sex and violence on tv, it was disgusting and I felt the acting was extreemly poor.
JMO
Disgusting to see the history of some of the early convict people sent here?
Yes it was violent and had sex in it. But that was most likely the way it was back then. I didn't like to see the rape or violence that happened, but it did make me think about the hell that those people went through and with nothing to lose they were driven to more violent crimes, it is a sad state of affairs.
I'd rather see that then the copious amounts of CSI like programs where they show extremely gruesome muder scenes, in real life the police get counselling after seeing some of the things they show on T.V!
Too much violence not enough sex I say lol

I'm the opposite, csi, ncis, law and order and the like are the only things I watch on tv. They just deal with things that happen all over the world every day, they don't usually show the crime, just the aftermath and how todays system deals with these acts.
This crap showed an overdramatisation of a 'supposed' true story. If the story didn't contain sex and violence the tv stations wouldn't bother with it, they aren't interested in 'history', just ratings.
I still think it was disgusting, like I said, just my opinion, and since everyone else here was able to voice their opinion without it being attacked, I think I should be given the same courtesy.
I wasn't "attacking" your opinion nor showing you any disrespect, we're all here to share, you watch CIS I don't big deal I don't like it you do, you didn't like Mary Bryant I did, I was just comparing and trying to find more out as to why you hated it so much.
It's just a discussion no need to say you were being attacked, as you were not.

If you love true blue Australian pioneer story's you should check out SBS they have a great documentry called Pioneers of love on Storyline Australia tonight at 8.30pm.
Its the second part to the story but they usually recap what happened in the first part. I watched the first part and it was facinating. Its a true story of love between a Russian decendant of royalty who fell in love with a young Indigenous Australian in the 1800's and their fight to be married. Great viewing :)
ohh that sounds good I will have to flick between that and Billy Conelley!

That sounds interesting...i was actually wondering what i was going to watch on telly tonight!
I too didn't like to watch the rape and stuff, but like Devon_Mouse said, its most likely what happened back then and even if they did dramatise it a bit, it was still true....I didn't think it was any worse, if less so, than all the crime shows on TV nowadays....they're too gory for me....
