Just a couple of questions,. Firstly I'd like to talk to any other mums who may have Lupus. I was diagnosed when I was pregnant with Jac. I was told I'd be very lucky to carry her to full term (she was 2 weeks over) and they were very surprised when I didn't miscarry her. I have had 2 previous miscarriages. I've been told the Lupus was most probably responsible.

Secondly, I wasn't able to BF Jac. My milk never came through and she was starving. I bf for 4 days before she went on the formula. Is this going to happen everytime I have a baby. I hear this is a more common problem than people realise. I had problems with the local midwives for choosing to stop trying (I was expressing and all I ever got was colostrum. Within 3 days of stopping the pumping and bf I was completely dry.

Hello,

I know how you feel about the midwives 'gently' coercing you into b'feeding!
I also wanted to b/feed and was lectured my various ppl to perserve it is best for baby etc.
Which I'm sure it is and if I had preference I would go that way! But my milk didn't really come in either...
There is never enough there for my bub and most of the time she just uses it for comfort now.
Which is okay with me - it keeps her happy.
You may find though that you may not be able to b/feed at all. I was told by the chn that it could be familial. Which just means that it could run in your family.
Could your mother b/feed and her mother??

Thats about as much light as I can shed on it!
Hope this helps a little:-)

Niki B I can really relate to the breastfeeding problems. I too struggled with low supply and no matter what I did I couldn't increase it and had to comp feed. I had this with all three babies. I felt really guilty and quite devastated and then some nasty person would make a comment. I just learnt to ignore them. Hidonly has given some great advice. All I can add is just take each baby one at a time. Give breastfeeding a go and just do your best. If it works better next time then great if not at least you tried. Maybe you could also try a lactation consultant.

There is so much pressure to breastfeed but at the end of the day you have to do what is best for you and your baby.
