View Full Version : Disappearing testicles???
I'm concerned about DS1's testes. When I'm changing his nappy it seems to me that his scrotum is smaller than DS2's. I'm worried that his testes may have 'gone up'. They looked fine a week ago, but the sac looks very small and empty (no'balls'). He's 22 months now and I called the GP and he suggested that I try to 'milk' them down, but I have no idea how to do that, and the couple of times I've tried DS1 makes a huge fuss and won't let me try (I don't blame him!)
Does anyone have any suggestions, or has anyone been through this? What do i have to do now? Should I take him in to the GP? Will he have to be operated on?
umm, some times DS kinda shrink up into his body but usually its when he is cold. some days they look empty and other days they seem huge. I cant bring myself to touch them :o so I get the doc to check it. how old is your DS? they do routine checks on them at certain stages. i would go to the doctor if your worried, i wouldnt want to hurt him.
My son had two testicles at birth and only one at his 6 week check-up. We saw a paediatric surgeon when he was 6 months old and she advised us on wether or not to have surgery. She said it can cause problems if the testicle has gone back up into the body and can make it hard to detect testicular cancer etc later in life (plus she explained a whole of other problems). So of course we decided to have the surgery - we had it done when he was about 18 months old. It was stressful but was only day surgery and he bounced back really well and quickly.
THe thing is, his testicle wasn't missing, it had GONE. Apparently sometimes they can twist off and disintegrate and that is what must have happened to our son. So he had to have the surgery for nothing. I think that is pretty rare though, most of the time they find the offending testicle and bring it back down.....
Don't tell my son :oI told you. lol

Thanks guys,
I think that it might have gone up, as I'm SURE they were both there a few weeks ago... and it seems a bit strange that BOTH of them are gone...
I'll book him in to the GP's for after Christmas. He's 22 months now, so I know that it's a bit worrying and he might need surgery for it, but I feel a lot less distressed about it after hearing that it's just day surgery (thanks, Bec... and I won't ever tell your son;) )
