View Full Version : Stretch and Sweep????
For those that have had a stretch and sweep did it kick start your labour, or did it do absolutely nothing.
Please vote in the poll and feel free to add your comments.
Also for those who say it did bring on labour how long after getting it done did it work for you?
(You can vote more than once in the poll if you have had more than 1 child);)
I had 2 S&S with Kailah, and they did nothing:thumbsdown:
Are they talking about doing a S&S for you???

I voted undecided. I went into labour about 3 days after my stretch and sweep.
ETA: Oscar's mum ~ all the best for a wonderful (and hopefully soon!) birth :)

I had a sweep three days after I was overdue. It did nothing, but it was as uncomfortable as hell! My dr was going to do three sweeps before inducing me, but I couldn't bear to go thru it again, it was the pushing on my stomach that did it for me, I was still in pain from it the next day. So when I went in the next day, I asked for an induction.

Hey Amanda,
I had a stretch and sweep with bub 3 and 4. #3 i went into labour the next day and #4 i went into labour 3 days after and both were born at 38 weeks so i guess it did work for me.
Best of luck if you decide to get it done :hugs:
ETA: also wanted to send you lots of labour vibes.. You are due tomorrow. Come on bubba :yelclap:

i had 2..one the day before i went to be induced...it did nothing ...and one when just before i was given more gel......that one worked as soon as it was done..i started to feel it happen:D
It hurt so much and did nothing for me. If I had really understood instead of being blindly led by the OB I would have refused.
Hope you get some action soon! :)
I had 2 S&S and didn't do a thing for me, was induced at 11 days overdue.
All the best for your labour and birth

I had a s & s with dd and it did nothing for me. I was induced 1 week later.
Hopefully if you choose to have 1 it will work for you, all the best for your labour and birth of your baby.

It worked for me with my 3rd baby.
I had an S&S at around 11am and then went into labour about 8pm.
I just wish I had it done with my other 2 sons which were both 10 days overdue and had to be induced.
Good luck hope it works for you.

Hi
I had a s&s at 10.00am wednesday morning, that afternoon had a show and mild contractions, 1.00am thursday morning starting contractions bad and Charlize was born at 4.20am - so yes it really worked for me.

I had one at 6 days over. Didn't hurt at all.
I was already 1cm dilated and stretched to 2cm.
Gave birth 24hours later.
So I say it helps bring things along but only if it's your time and things are slowly starting to happen anyway.
Goodluck and best wishes on your birth.

I had one with DS1 and it didn't work, I was induced when he was 10 days over. With DS2 I saw Doc on bubs due date, I had a stretch and sweep at 10am and by Midday I was having contractions 5mins apart :D It worked a treat for me.
I think it depends on the Doc or Ob doing it as to how good they are at it. I saw a different Doc with DS2 and everyone I talk to says that this Docs stretch and sweeps work really well. At least a dozen people have told me they went into labour within 24hours after seeing him. Ask around and find out what your Docs record is like - or ask him directly. Goodluck!!

A midwife did mine and because it didn't bother me she had a real good go :D

I had 3 prrior to Joshua being born, with no result. My overdue bubby was just too comfortable in his warm, cosy placental environment.

I am undecided- but kinda leaning towards the 'it did work' side of things. I went into labour 36 hours after mine (40weeks + 5). Well, the start of 2 days of mild labour niggles anyway.
I was 4 cm dilated when my ob did the s&s, was 3cm the week before and 2cm the week before that.
I had the s&s because I was NOT going to be induced. I was hoping that the s&s would help things come along gently, without starting a full-on labour to birth a baby that wasn't ready to make her grand entry just yet.

I voted that it did bring on labour for me, but I was already 3cm, what it really did was throw me head first into the most excrutiating, constant pain, I could ever possibly imagine. Just being honest....
