Personal question now- maybe a little tmi but for the breast feeding mummies- do your boobs hurt??? my left one feels like a needle is being driven in throgh my nipple at present- and it doesn't appear to have any cracks or splits in it??? Is this normal????

After going through labour, nothing is personal....

I had sharp needle pains in my breats when my son was about 8 weeks old.. It was a constant pinning feeling.. I spoke to my health nurse and she said it was Breast Thrush... There is a gel you can get from the chemist to treat yourself and your baby... Best to speak to your health nurse or doctor before trying though, it might be something different..

Hope this helps...

Sounds like thrush. It's actually quite common so don't worry about having given it to her or not :) It's fine to continue breastfeeding but you'll want to get it treated soon to stop the pain.

Pop into your local chemist or see your CHN to get the appropriate antifungal treatment. Make sure you follow the directions carefully and do it for the required amount of time so you don't end up reinfecting each other.

Yep, sounds like thrush to me too...

I have used 2 different treatments, only one at a time, Daktarin Oral Gel and NilStat Drops... Make sure that you treat both of you, even if one of you clears up first, otherwise you will reinfect each other..

If you are using breast pads, make sure you change them regularly...

My dd had thrush at 2 months & I'm a bf mum i asked the doc the same question he said just to make sure my nipples are clean before & after feeding baby because you can get thrush in your nipples but it should be fine if you get it treated, and the pain in you nipples is normal i take a little bit for them to tuffen up.

It does sound like thrush but a lactation consultant would be most able to help you. You should absolutely continue to feed your baby. You can also use gentian violet on your nipples which looks a bit wild  but works almost instantly.
This is a link to a huge amount of info. You need to get it seen to asap.
