Hi guys. So, we're making plans for a second baby and one of the most important things I want to research is pre-natal care and of course, the birth. I was wondering whether I should go private? I was thinking public would be fine if I went the birth centre way but noticed that RWBH don't accept VBAC mothers into the program. Big thumbs down! I live on the northside and just have absolutely no idea where to start.
These are the key things:-
- I want to attempt VBAC
- I want access to a spa/bath for labour and possibly birth
- I want one midwife for the entire pregnancy and birth
- I want to attempt a drug free, vaginal birth with a midwife that is very supportive towards this.
- Am leaning towards a private room, which I know is usually private cover. I'd love a quiet comfortable environment to bond with my baby and hopefully someone to help me with breastfeeding.
Unfortunately I don't know anything about private.
- How much does it cost?
- Who do I talk to about applying?
- What hospitals on north-side are the best for pre and post natal care, as well as birthing?
- Does private cover these things that I want listed above?
- What else does private cover in terms of having a baby? How does it weigh up against public?
- What's the story with partners/mothers attending birth? And visitors in visiting hours thereafter? Are there any hospitals where partners are able to stay overnight with mother and baby?
There may be more I want to know but even if someone can point me in the direction of a good website, or a good hospital so I can ask them all the questions! Thanks so much.
