Hi I was just wondering if anyone had information on how many scoops per day of polyjoule a 2.5 year old should have in order to try and gain some weight. She is a fussy eater has sleep apnoea due to her large tonsils and I have been assured she will pick up once she has her tonsils have been removed but this is not until june 07, and want to try and get some weight on before the operation. Thanks

Dear Little1,

Enlarged tonsils can cause problems such as apnoea and fussy eating in kids – it is fantastic that you have had this issue recognized and have a management plan lined up.

I would strongly recommend, however, that you seek the advice of a dietitian in the meantime regarding your daughter’s nutrition. 6 months is a long time in a toddler’s life to have reduced nutritional intake. If your little girls’ weight is low or dropping, or she is eating a limited variety or quantity of food, professional advice is required.

The amount of polyjoule (or any other nutritional supplement) added to foods or drinks varies according to each child – there is no standard quantity or proportion. It is also generally encouraged that appropriate food types or quantities are given first – in preference to just supplements – where possible.

Please see your GP or paediatrician about a paediatric dietitian in your area. Alternatively, you can simply find one in the yellow pages and refer yourself.
