Hi,
my little one is 6 mo and still has reflux although we've been told by the Dr that it should resolve by 4-6 months. A nurse has recommended to see a chiropractor, apparently that can really help. Has anyone taken their baby to one and did you have any success?
Can someone recommend a good Perth chiropractor that specialises in babies.
Many thanks
Olivia

I havent had experience myself, however a friend took her 4 week old to one and said it made the world of difference. Almost instant relief!

Good luck with the search. Sorry but im in brissy!!

I took DD to chiro from 2 weeks old... not just for reflux, she had a bad neck and was really unsettled. I recommend it for sure, although she still has to have thickener in her bottles to keep it down (now 11months old) but she does not need medication and hasn't since she was five months old.

I can recommend one at Arana Hills (northside brissy) and Cannon Hill (southside).

I had my 5 week old treated and her reflux cleared up, but I haven't been able to go back, so at 10 weeks it reared it ugly head again.

I'm quite lucky tho, I good friend of mine is a chiro who specialises in pregnancy and babies, I've just been too slack to go visit and get another treatment.....

My dd is now 5 months old and we have been seeing a chiro in Brisbane City since she was 5 weeks for reflux. It has been amazing - when we first went in it was like turning the off switch on the reflux.

We went from 16 hours a day of screaming to about 1 hour after just the first visit. Now she hardly ever screams in pain and has a couple of daily happy chucks.

Another one who would recommend chiro for babies to anyone! We noticed a change immediately, its well worth it and better than taking medication IMO:)

My family and I have seen a Chiropractor (SOT, sacral occipital technique-very gentle for newborn and beyond, no manual adjusting) since '98, it made a huge difference to my pregnancy and labour.

Bub slept for 8 hours after his first adjustment and has been a very settled, happy and healthy baby ever since, we all go to see the chiropractor, once a month for wellness care, we are the healthiest that we have ever been.

I have PM'd you info about how to find a chiropractor in Perth

Bub sleeps through or laughs, during his adjustments.
My 13 year old DSS asks to see the chiro, as he says he feels so much better afterwards.:yelclap:

My chucky bub has mild torticollis thanks to a difficult birth (tilty head). We started with physio for the torticollis but it didnt take. After her first session at chiro tho, she was a different baby! She was awake the whole next day nearly, just taking in the world and in the last 2 weeks has developed her skills so fast I can't believe it. The chiro gave her the ability to explore the world!

With her reflux she is still chucky, but getting less so. She also tolerates tummy time much better, and seems to regurgitate less during.

We will keep going weekly for a couple months, then monthly for a while longer.

I have private extras cover too, so I get back most of what i spend on her chiro.

Definitely try the chiro!

:yelclap: Another chiro convert here!! Infact I think secretly I love him  !!

He has changed the lives of my kids. We are on the road to combating dd8 and ds5 bedwetting (after trying everything including, ugh, alarms). Their spine/neck are pretty out so its taking a few visits but we are getting there!

The biggest miracle has been for bub. At 7wks I was a mess. She wouldnt sleep (unless in my arms) crying, she had silent reflux, shoving her fists down her throat, the list goes on. After getting to 6am one morning and she still hadnt slept (for 19hrs) I was a cot case!!

Two people had already mentioned the chiropractor to me a wk earlier, (and yes I too was sceptical) and that morning I booked her in (and took her off zantac which Id tried for 2 wks which did nothing except make her cry more, and insomnia was one of the side affects!!)

Within days she started to sleep,(in her own bed) and within 2 wks she was (and still is at 3.5 mths) sleeping min 8hrs straight a night! Shes still not a sleeper during the day, and we are working on other things to help her with that, but the night time sleeping is a god send!
I finally got my sanity back!!:smiliedance:

Zoe is still having weekly visits, and my chiro only charges $15 for bubs.

If only I knew about this when I had my first bub, as she was the same! But of course being a first time mum, you dont know whats normal and whats not!! (and at 8yrs she's still a shocking sleeper!!)

I am now making it my mission to educate the world (well as many people as I can :D ) about the fantastic benefits of going to the chiro. Especially mums, who are going insane because they have no idea whats wrong with their bub and for some reason the health proffesionals would rather hand out drugs to our kids!!?

Infact, ive been thinking of ringing up the current affair programs and suggesting they do a story on the benefits: for bubs (and their poor mums), it also helps with add, women who cant concieve, bedwetting, oh the list is endless...

 Hi Kez872, I hope that you can take your bubs, it really sounds like what we were experiencing with zoe. Was the chiro you took your other daughter to, qualified in babies? Where they any good?

 To everyone else considering taking your bub to a chiro (and also the people who are too scared) we had another check up at the chiro today and I told him how Ive been on here recommending the chiro to people, and whats the best way for someone to find a qualified chiro for bubs.

He said the question you need to ask them is, have they got chiro qualifications in peidiatrics. This is very important as he said a lot of chiros say, "oh yeah Ive been treating babies for years" but they dont have a clue because they arnt qualified in bubs. It is important that they have a degree in pediatrics. He said a young baby's body is completely different even to say a 3 yr old, so their treatment is different.

He then went on to tell me a couple of cases he knew of, one of which, a chiro grabbed a young bub by the feet, turned bub upside down and yanked on the baby's legs. And said 'there you go all fixed"

Omg!!! No wonder people are so completely terrified!!

So to all you sceptics, my apologies for not understanding your fear. If I had heard a story like that, there's no way I would have taken my bub.

He also said, ask around. You really should get personal references from people that are happy with their chiro.

Actually, I would really like to start a thread on where people live and which chiropractor they use, so that we can share this information. For eg, I can say I live in Albany, WA and I go to ......... But I am unsure as to whether (for legal or other reasons) I am allowed to post my chiros name on a forum. Does anyone know if this is ok? Im a newbie bub hubber, so Im not all clued up yet. My chiro has also given me two recomendations for Perth dwellers, as they did their qualifications when he did, he can guarantee that they know what they are doing. Any thoughts on this?:)

We've taken Caleb to a chiropractor his whole life and although we've never really had reflux problems with him since he was newborn......maybe that's why!

Can I ask if anyone can recommend a chiro on the northside of Brisbane? Zara is four months old and has reflux, we have her on Losec but it doesn't seem to be doing much.

what does a chriopractor actually do to the babies? Why take them is it just for reflux or does it help colic suffering babies aswell?

Our chiro did massage (on their backs and their tummies), and very gently adjusted their hips, necks and spines using a combination of massage and a trigger thingo that he clicked on his hand that was resting on the baby (sounds very technical hey??LOL)

For DD, the chiro helped her reflux and her colicky wind (she chucked and had a windy tummy). the difference was amazing. We waited until she was 4mths old before getting desperate and giving it a go. With DS, we booked him in for his first chiro visit from the mat ward the day after he was born, and we went straight from hospital to the chiro with him. He was a different baby than his sister...he was a "happy chucker" (he would bring little bits of milk up often, but it never bothered him), he slept very well (unlike his sister until we took her to the chiro)....

Even if you are only thinking about it, give it a go. I have convinced so many of my friends to give chiro a go, and all of them have, and got the same results I did. One friend had already been to the GP and gotten the scripts for all the reflux meds before I convinced her to try the chiro, and after 3 trips to the chiro, she threw the scripts out!

Chiro care for babies and children is very under rated, and can help with all sorts of things...it also supports the immune system, and helps the body to stay healthy.

Just had to report... Kyan went to the chiro this morning and he actually loved it.

He saw my chiro who I have been seeing for around 7 years now...

He actually sighed when she moved onto something else, and hes been such a happy content baby today

Fingers crossed he sleeps well tonight. :D

That's fantastic news!!:smiliedance:

Please let us know tomorrow how your night went!!:)

Ive actually been very slack with taking bub to the chiro. Since xmas, she's only been once and we are definately paying for it!! Her reflux symptoms have returned (although not as severe) and her neck is bad again, causing b/feeding problems! Have an appointment on Mon, now will have to take her a few times a week again, to get her back to how she was:banghead: I will have to be more diligent!

If I wasnt convinced before that it was working, I surely am now!!

I'm a paediatric chiro in melbourne and a mum of a 20 month old girl. People ask me why she is such a happy bright child who has been well ahead of all her milestones. I say its because she has been checked from birth. It was the firs thing i did while i held her on my chest.

I have seen hundreds of children and parents suffering through colic, reflux, sleepless nights, ear infections, teething, recurring colds.....the lot!
Once your childs nerve information is properly getting from its brain to the where it supposed to be going the body does the rest. The body works so well when there is no interference, that is what Chiropractic does.
Some of these babies have started with these problems in utero from the cramped conditions and then have had the trauma of the birth to contend with. Pregnant mums, get yourselves checked, that will help and then get your bubs checked as soon as you can. Many family chiros will do a home or hospital call to check the baby.
Its very gentle. No more pressure is used than if you were testing the ripeness of a tomato. Sometimes, depending on the technique a baby may be turned upside down, sometimes its not required.

I hope this helps anyone thinking of seeing a chiropractor. It will change you life for the better. Look at research for Paediatric Chiropractic care and registered australian chiros near you on www.icpa4kids.org (http://www.icpa4kids.org).

Take care all, xx Vitalmum
