I have recently found out that I am having a boy at my 20 week ultrasound :D YAY - I already have a four year old girl and consider myself extremely lucky for getting one of each.

I am having a really hard time trying to think of some nice boys names that aren't too common. I was hoping for some suggestions from all the mothers out there on their favourite boys names.

Hi, I have a lovely girl, but if I was to have a boy, a couple of names I had picked were Connor and Kyle
Best of luck

I love Connor...although my DH is afraid that he will get called Con, so we are leaning towards, Ethan, Dylan, Aidan....

I quite like Kai too...don't know if DH will though, he likes Damien also...

Congratulations by the way!

I think the name Kiren for a boy is very cute. Also Jordan and Tyson or Ty.

Hi Elle

You do have to be a bit more circumspect about boys names - but I've always liked Garrick. It sounds so Arthurian - knights of the round table and all that. And hey, you can call him Gazza for short (I've always wanted to do that, but with two girls and no more babies - someone else is going to have to). I think it means ėlf-spear" or something similar and comes from medieval French.

I love names... :o

Our boy is named Luke, which suits him fine.

But I did like Brock. Unfortunately, everyone else is my family said it sounded too American. "Something out of Days of our Lives".

Good Luck.

Thank you for all your suggestions - I am taking notes :)

I have always had my heart set on Corey for a little boy, but I have been voted out, my partner, mother in law and my mother all hate the name so I guess I will have to go with something else :( .

Keep the names coming!!

Hi Elle,

I also like Connor but was overruled because of the "Con" issue. And I was also a big fan of Kynan. We ended up choosing my father in laws' name - Michael, which is fine, but I think I'll push harder for Kynan if there is a next time!

Have been reading the suggestions and it is good to see there ARE lots of cool boys' names out there. I really like the old fashioned classic names, not too fussed with the last name as a first name thing though I know it's very popular these days........having worked in child care for years I guess I got sick of the done to death names (Jordan, Ryan etc) and you also associate names with children that could rub you up the wrong way!
We already have Patrick....but we call him Paddy.
I have heaps of girls' names but it was harder to think of a boys' name if we have another one. My husband likes Ezekiel (Zeke) for short which I'm not too fussed with. I like Henry but he doesn't. The one name we can agree on is Charlie....I love it! My mother in law hates it..says it reminds her of Prince Charles.....as I said I love it (hee hee)! :D

I especially like the names Dylan and Logan - I think it will be a toss up between the two.

Just don't pick something that will "date" them. Think of all the Kylie/Tracey/Sharon and Wayne/Darren/Kevin type 70's names. Trendy names are cute for now but they're stuck with them forever.

I like to choose names that are known but not common. We have two girls and then we had our boy. It was such a delight and joy to have this little man in the family. We chose the name Reuben, which means "Behold, a son!" Very appropriate we thought. It is a biblical name, but not very common. Good luck!

we have a joshua 4yrs (meaning a leader of his people)
and a jonah 7months (meaning ; adove.)
i think you do have to be carefull when you name your children that it is a name that will grow with them a ,a name that is cute when your 2 dosent always sound so cute at 32.
also be careful about shortning and rymthing names .our jonah already gets bona wich when he is 15 im sure will cause major red cheeks.
i also think that you shouldnt worry what other people think (including husbands) if you carry it around for 9 months you give birth to it you ger to name it what ever you damn well please ,he can name the family pets .
im sure you'll find the name that suits your little one and im sure it will be perfect.

We found the easiest thing to do was grab a baby book or jump on the net (ninemonths.com.au have over 30,000 names) both hubby and i noted names that we liked, crossed off the ones we didnt like from each others list and then jumped on the net again to look at the most common names lists for the past few years and crossed these off. We ended up with Jonathan for our boy and Alexis for our girl (twins) they are not 'old' names unusual, or made up names but are not heard that often either. We also looked at the meanings of the names to help us to.

Hi,

My partner and I have agreed on 3 boys names Tait, Declan and Baden however Baden is out now because of master baden.. Hope thats not too crude but you have to think of these things! We CANNOT agree on a girls name.. I like Kaidence and my partner likes Amelie. Which I think sounds like a mispronunciation of Emily.. Anyway we are not pregnant yet but think we will have a boy!

Good luck ladies

Well after much deliberating and actually having the scare of preterm labour last week (which thankfully was stopped, but kicked our buts into gear on deciding a name) :D we have chosen Rylen.

So far everyone I have told have said the "ohhh thats different" line :p but I like it and its different and I haven't heard of any other little boys with the same name so thats the one we are going with.

Thanks for all your ideas and good luck to everyone else out there who is having the same problem.

Hi,
I also wanted something different. So i chose Kailen for my boy, but i'm sure when he's older he'll get get Kai for short. Since he's just started smiling, i call him "Smilin Kailen". Brock is another nice one, also his middle name, for the all the holden fans of Peter Brock. Kieron (heaps of different spelling for this) is another. Good Luck, and i do think boys names are harder to pick than girls.

What a game to play names kept coming up and then people would suggest names. I have a 6 wk old girl called Abigail Grace not sure where I got this from!!!Also had Molly Jasmine which is a name Meg Ryan had for her baby name in the movie she did with Russel Crowe(just a little bit of trivia). If I had a boy I had one name chosen and that was Noah Andrew funny how a ceryain name can just stand out and thats it.

Good luck with it

i decided on Jayden Samuel months ago, but the same day i opened up the paper and was reading the 'newborns' area and there was a little boy there who lives a few suburbs over call Jayden Samuel - I couldn't believe it, I finally found a name I thought was perfect but the exact same combination was already gone.
I can't give any idea's on boys names, cause hubby and I are having the exact same problem atm, but once you decide or once you have a few choices keep them well and truely between yourselves - or at least don't tell your pregnant friends!

On the website of the NSW registry of births, deaths and marriages you can seach the most commonly used boys and girls names from the previous year. It helps to see what names are popular (and avoid them) so your child doesn't end up with three other kids in their class with the same name.

Hi there!

My favourites for a boy that I can offer as suggestions include:

Henry
Pascal
Timothy
Wilson (Wil)
William (Bill)
Charles
Flynn
Finlay

I must say that I am not a fan of any of the 'ayden names. Sorry. They are just too common at the moment. There's Jayden, Jaden, Jaiden, Jaydon, Jaydan and Brayden, Braden, Braiden, Bradon, Braydan then Kayden, Kaden, Kaydan, Kaydon, Caeden, Caden, Cayden, Cadan then we start with the H...

Each to their own, but I just am hearing (and seeing the multitude of spellings) of these names everywhere lately.

We called our baby boy Orlando (NOT because of Orlando Bloom). We liked the name as its Italian in origin and so am I. Hi Elle
Some advice for you forget what the family thinks of the names you have chosen so long as you and your partner agree that is all that matters. If it were for my parents our little Ethan would have been called something very Italian.
I like Hayden, Chase, Blaze, Declan it took me three years to convince my husband on Ethan.
Good luck and choose the name you both like not your family.

My 1st son is called Jhayden(silent H), and our next boy, due in 20 weeks will be Kayne. I like different spellings. I found that there are so many girls names I would have chosen though, like Skye, Jayde, Erika and Krystal.

We have:
Jhayden James Angus Jarman and
Kayne Kameron Andrew Jarman.

The girl would have been:
Skye Erica Kathryn Jarman.

hi

before my daughter as born my partner and i decided we'd calll her Taylah or Mikayla(which ever we though suited her better once she arrived) .....when i came out of recovery (after c-section) back to the ward my partner had named her mikayla. he told me she looked like mikayla.... :) .
after a couple of weeks we decided to give her Rose as a middle name, just because it sounded nice, Mikayla Rose. Sine then i have met at least 7 other little girls with the same name.. Mikayla Rose and evenred in the paper one with the same last name.

so if i ever concieve baby number 2 and am going to try and think of somehting a little different.

if by chance we were to have a boy he would have been called Jack.. but lucky we didnt because i am over that name now.

i like Caleb and Boden for boys... :)

Hi,

I've just found out we're expecting a boy too (our first), I had lots of girl's names picked out but am really struggling to find a boy's one. The main problem is that lots of names are out because they remind us of people we know.

I like more traditional names, which don't seem really popular at the moment including: Christian, Justin, Cameron, James, Steven and Alexander but none of these really feel right, does the perfect name jump out when you find it? What if we choose a name then stop liking it after a while?

I love Sasha for a girl or boy but my husband had a dog called Sasha so doesn't like it(!).

I'll keep an eye on future postings for ideas. :)

P.S. Kai has been mentioned a few times here, I haven't heard of that before. In Maori (NZ native language) Kai means food. ;)

Thomas's mum is right - on baby names it's spanish and means St James:)

I like Kael for a boy which is celtic/gaelic and means mighty warrior - if its a girl, so far its going to be called Elisha (even though the baby name site I go to has that as a boy's name  i've heard of more girls called it than boys though )

This is a good site for baby names and meanings www.babynames.com

You can search under meanings there also :)
