I was 1 week late for Af and suspected i was pregnant but pg tests came back negative, then i finally got my af and thought nothing of it,i have now had af for 3 days and have had some bad cramping that i have been taking neurofen for it,then just now i have started clotting:confused: whats would this be from?could it be a miscarriage?I had ds 5 months ago and stopped bleeding 3 weeks post partum then when ds was 2-3 months i got af so it cant be clotting from birth.I dunno if anyone has an explanation or any idea that would be great?:hugs:

It could be possable that you had a early miscarrage, aparently it happens quite often, most people just think oh af is late and usually its just a little bit heavier than your regular one, if it gets majourly(sp) more heavy and you start getting big clots I suggest heading to your gp to get it checked out

Just so everyone knows CLOTTING is not normal during your AF....if it is ongoing (like mine was)...and I'm talking big chunks of yucky stuff...I also had very very heavy AF since I had my bub...sorry TMI....go to the Dr...I did...there can be many causes...I had to have an internal ultra sound....I have fibriods and a polyp...I now have to have surgery to get the polyp removed:( .....please speak to your GP...I put off going to my GP for over a year.

Please excuse my ignorance but what is the significance with polyps and fibroids?

I rang health direct and they said that this is NOT normal and that i should see a doctor within an hour, the lady said that it is more than likely i am misscarrying given the circumstances,i have made a docs appointment for 5 which is in 2 hrs,i will give the verdict when i get back.I had a feeling something like this was going to happen.

I have always had clots when I get AF. And big ones.... I always thought it was just the lining of the uterus..... I did have cysts on my ovaries but.... so I don't know if that had anything to do it!!??
Bubba Ganoush - what exactly are polyp and fibriods? what do they do??

i was not arguing with you in anyway, (just making it clear) and those 'nurses' on the call lines, they HAVE to say go to the doctor. same with poisons info lines etc. but thats not what we are discussing. i simply asked if you(meaning ANYONE) would get a positive test then miscarriage and the question was not directed at you but anyone who would know. i have heard that the HCG goes away pretty quickly when you miscarry? this may be wrong though.

sorry, can't go into a long explanation...here are some links

fibriods

polyps (read the endometrial section...this is what I have)

http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcarticles.nsf/pages/Polyps?OpenDocument

I'm not saying that everyone that has clots during their AF has the above....I'm just saying I ignored mine for 22 months...finally got off my *** and went and saw a dr and I have both...and now I have to get the polyp removed...just wanted you ladies to know, that's all.

Sorry if i missunderstood you :)
The nurses dont have to say goto the doctors, obviously if something is not normal you have to go to the doctors sometime but the nurses on the phone let you know what to look out for :ecomcity: and when you should goto the doctors eg.if it is urgent or not or to wait and see, thats just my expiriences anyway.

If you think something is not right with your body then i think you should ask the doctor again :hugs: to you hope everything is ok.

i have learnt to deal with it, possibly not ovulating, possibly sensetive to progesterone, the list goes on. noone does anything.

I hope things work out for you too, as you know your body better than anyone, i think mine just likes playing tricks:rolleyes::D

Not everyone gets a pos HPT so early, what can happen is that the egg implants and then doesn't go any further, cause the egg has implanted it sends a signal so Af doesn't arrive, cause it doesn't grow any bigger it won't make enough hcg that is detected in the urine, and can take a few days to expell making your af a bit late,

as for the clotting, yes it can be normal for some, when I was younger I always had a little clotting with af, it wasn't like huge clots, more tiny little ones with lots of stringy ones (sorry tmi) my af since having my first baby have not had any clotting, so now if i do have clotting I know somthing is up, iykwim

I too get clotting every month, and thought that this was normal. I've read the links on polyps and fibroids and I don't have any of the symptoms.
I just thought everyone had clotting :o

Reeny & Sash.. I was just reading your post about doctor confimring you had a miscarriage.

Very sorry about this.

What was his reasoning for this? Did he take a pregnancy test? Did he take your blood tests? I would have asked for that.. there would still be traces of HCG in your blood.

Clotting is normal in AF .. even if it doesn't happen all the time.

Even if you had regular periods with no clotting you can still get an iregular period wth clotting for no known reason.

I had the exact same situation a couple of years ago, I was worried about all the clotting and asked my dad if this was normal. (doctor). He told me yes, it's just some of the lining that hasn't liquified and it is quite usual for this to happen.
It can also make your periods painful as it is like going through mini labour to expel them.

I would ask for a blood test as soon as possible to confirm if you had any level of HSC in your blood.

Save you feeling uneccesary loss if it wasn't a miscarriage. Espcially if you said you had no pregnancy symptoms.

Good luck!

Reeny, a similar thing happened to me.

I had 3 cycles of AF after DS was born then half way through the 4th cycle it came  Just thought it was a bit funny after being pgy etc..however I was on the pill!!???

Went to Dr who told me it was the brand of pill so I Changed howver contunued with AF...for 3.5weeks..with, Like you described clotting etc... I stopped taking the pill to rule that out & yep still AF!!

When it evenutally stopped I marked it on clendar just incase it happened next cycle. The last 2 cycles have been absolutely on the money on their due dat for 3-4 days.....Dr confirmed it was miscarraige!....Why couldn't ha have told me that before? I was a bit cross!

But enough about me....:hugs: to you & :fingerscrossed: it doesn't happen again for you xxx

I actually did have pregnancy symptoms, and also i went to get the IUD put in and my cervix was closed, usually when your not pregnant you cervix is open just enough to het the iud in.

doesnt it also close when you ovulate?

Its always open very slightly until you get pregnant then it closes and the plug is made to keep baby in,the cervix is meant to be open a little to conceive the baby so the sperm can go through, don't quote me on this though, this is my understanding of it.
