View Full Version : Requesting induction?
I was wondering are you able to request to be induced or is it only a decision the doctor makes?
I really don't wanna be induced but i really really hate hospitals and don't wanna be in one for xmas:(
I think if you are private sometimes they can let you request an induction but if your public I doubt they will induce you - especially when you said your obs letter didn't have you due till the 25th;)

I actually rang my doc and she explained to me that she didn't want me to go past the 25th.. but anyway have an app with midwife tomorrow so hopefully it's a good one.:fingerscrossed:
i asked to be induced 5 days early for a genuine reason but after doc did an internal bubs wasnt ready so he didnt but if bubs was ready he would have  5 days later he came anyways
Good luck at your appointment. Hope you get what you want.
Just thought i would let you know that i went through the public system and they would induce me until i developed pre-eclampsia.
My physiotherapist wanted me induced at 38 weeks, and wrote the hospital a letter, but still no luck.
Anyway, hope it all works out.:fingerscrossed:

With my DD2 I asked to be induced as my inlaws were going away and I had no-one else to look after DD1. I think I was booked in to be induced about 6 days over but I ended up going into labour by myself anyway!

Aww.. thankyou:hugs:
Sazeby-
Its horrible being overdue, i feel for you. I was overdue and induced at 2 weeks late.
I will just tell you that apparently inducing only works if your baby is ready. I was in the waiting room for antenatal at the hospital and they booked me in that night to be induced. There was a lady next to me coming in the next day to be induced- it took 4 goes over 4 days for it to work for her.
Apparently I was nearly ready as I went into labour 1 hour after they inserted the gel.
Good luck darl

Hi goodluck. I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow. I was induced with both my angels. I had pre-eclampsia with my DD and was induced 9 days early. With my DS is was in good health but my dad was going in for major surgery and came to visit the week before I was due so I asked to be induced at 38weeks. But DS was not ready and I had a very hard labour :(

Don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!! I was induced and it ended up being horrible, all my wonderful calm in control pregnancy plans went right out the window. Everyone I know who is induced has had a rough labour.
Try natural therapies - like acupuncture. I started getting mild contractions after only 1 session and then had to go in for the induction and ended up starting my contractions about 1.5 hrs after the gel so they think I would have gone into labour that night anyway  . A girlfriend who went 2 weeks overdue with her 1st 2 bubs had acupuncture for #3 and after 3 session went into labour natural and delivered a healthy girl after only 4 hrs from first twinge.
Good luck!!! :fingerscrossed:

ok i dont think induction is a bad thing...its been my god send with my dd's:D
first and second labour 4 hours....but my last one less then 3 hours....priceless:D
dont try to push for an induction i know how awful it feels the last weeks...then going over...and its summer:eek: but in some case it does go wrong.
if you dont have bub before your induced i'd say they'd do it on the 26th 27th.......not to far......p.s if your looking for a really good birthdate...today is mine:D

I tried to get an induction for Matthew because I knew he was going to be a big baby. I'd also been really sick for 8wks and I was so run down from it and I couldn't get my energy levels back up and I was chronically tired.
I was denied my request. But I did put it to my GP yesterday that I didn't want to go overdue (highly unlikely anyway as my other 3 were on time) because of the size of my last 2 boys and she said that I have a genuine reason for an induction.
Personally, I don't feel that having an induction because you don't want to be in hospital for Christmas is a valid reason.

i got out of hospital on xmas eve with my first.
while i didnt really want to spend xmas day in there with her it was because i wanted her home around family.
now that i have 3 other kids and dsd i REALLY dont want to be in labour and HAVE the baby christmas day because i dont want to palm off 3 kids to different houses where these families will be having their own christmas'.
i had my last two early so ive spent the last few weeks hoping this one doesnt come early but more so doesnt come xmas eve.
i want to wake up with my kids xmas morning.

Sooooo Sorry to be a negative nancy, But..
If you are induced and your baby is not ready to come out, there is a very high chance of him/her going into fetal distress and you may end up having an extraction or C-Sect...
Perhaps your dates are slightly wrong and you may not be "overdue" just yet.
Unless there are signs of placental insufficiency, inducing is usually a bad idea, Your choice though
Im sure if im 2 weeks overdue, i wouldnt give a toss either id just want him out!!
Good luck!! :D
This is sooooo true..
Food for thought... a normal pregnancy ends between weeks 38-42. Being pregnant after your estimated date of delivery does not necessarily make you 'overdue'.
Inductions can make for horrific births... The best and easiest ones are when bubs is ready to make an apparance. Honey, if I were you, I'd sit back and wait and see what happens.
They really should give ppl the estimated due date as 42 weeks pregnant - it would be nicer that way;)

I could be totally wrong, but I think I've heard that in France they do infact set the EDD's at 41 week's gestation!
Your baby won't be overcooked Kellie- not even overdue. He or she will be right on time! My first baby born at 38 weeks looked and responded just like a 40+ weeker. And my 40+5 baby could have been my 38-weeker (just bigger ;) )
