I am so ashamed. I don't know where to go for help.
When I was pregnant with my son, I spend quite alot of time in hospital for pain and bleeding. The pain was so bad in the last 8 weeks, that a Pain ManagementTeam came to see, and precribed loads of regular pain killers. Morphine. Endone. Tramadol. I was on these four hourly for 3 months.
When I left the hospital, I had to go cold turkey. It was so hard and I was in tears for days. I couldn't even get out of bed.I managed to get by on Panadol as I was breastfeeding. This went on for 13 months.
Then in February last year I had a Migraine. The Pharmacist gave me Mersyndol, which I'd never taken before. I have now been taking two every night since then.
I have tried to stop. But I never get to sleep. I have tried to cut down. But this leads me to feel edgy and anxious.
I am terrified that my kidneys and liver will eventually fail. I am scared that I will never be able to stop.
Can anyone help me?

Dont feel ashamed because you are asking for help by posting here.
After taking addictive prescribed medication for 3 months you should have been reducing them not just expected to go cold turkey  so much for the pain management team
I have been given something to help my sleep but i know myself and this is why i will not touch them with a ten foot pole. its way to easy just to take one and then before you know it your hooked.
I would suggest going to the Dr and see what they say. Also i have taken sleep stuff made up from a naturopath. This seemed to help alot.
You could also try a relaxing bath before bed and i write down things that are bothering me to clear my head. I also try to read a little before i go to sleep. Seems to make me very sleepy and i can relax a little.
:hugs: Its hard work but you will feel so much better when you are not dependant on medication.

Hi FOURtunate,
In the past, I too have found myself depending on Mersyndol for migraine and especially for sleep.
I thought you might like to know that there is a product called DOZILE (capsules) and they contain only doxylamine which is the ingredient in Mersyndol that makes you sleepy.
If you took these instead for a while, you would at least be cutting out the Paracetamol and the Codeine.
You can get DOZILE over the counter.
It may not solve the problem entirely, but at least you would be taking 2 less substances.
You then could swap this over for a healthier alternative of your choice that works for you.
You could then try planning alternate nights using a herbal sleep preparation if that suits and eventually cut right down.
Take it one step at a time and see how you go.
Hope this helps

:hugs: :hugs: :hugs: for you.
First thing...well done for admitting it and asking for help. This is the first step.
Second step: you need to see your doctor so they can arrange a step down detox program for you to wean off them. Also try some of the things the other posters have recommended.
And good luck. We are all here to support you

Don't be ashamed, you are in the right place to be able to talk about these things...
I suggest doing what dee said and speaking to your dr about a plan of attack. And not be embarrssed to talk to the dr either, they are there to help with these things...
I use pain killers for any slight pain i get... Although im not hooked on one in particular.. i Still jump when im in pain.. And it's a habit i went into with my son aswell.. But thank godness and thank god for the hub, i've read alot of things that has changed my mind on jumping for the pain killers straight away...
BEST OF LUCK.. and we are all here for you.. :hugs:
