Are they usually good in the car? My SIL did it from Gold Coast to Sydney, the kids were pretty good but yeah they stopped a fair bit.
Good luck if you decide to go.
My partner wants to drive to sydney again :banghead: but DS doesnt not like being in the car for too long anymore

We drove from Bathurst to Townsville in 2002 with 2 kids aged 2 and 3............in a 2 door Hyundai Excel. It took 3 days and the kids were well behaved, no problems at all aside from the cramped conditions, lol.

Look out Queenslanders! I'm coming to your state with my pram "the hummer!" (see the pram rage thread in general chat )

hehe...have fun!! Stopping every 2-3hrs, even if it is only for 15mins, is the key. And make sure you let them take their favourite toy.

Enjoy the trip as i drive from sydney to the Gold Coats two weeks ago with my Mum (DH had to work) and my 14month old DS. We stopped a few times to let him run around. It was a good idea to leave really early in the morning ad we left Sydney at 2:45 and bubs slept for the first 4 hours- the trip then didn't seem as long. Prepare your stops a little as we found it hard as some servos, places etc didn't have clean or appropriate facilities to change bubs. Spend a bit of time at Macca's as facilities are clean and DS ran happily in the playground.
enjoy your trip as QLD is a great place.

p.s. Try and stay in sydney as it will break your trip and there is lots to see (not that i am biased!?!?!)

I think it'd be ok as long as you made a few stops here and there, took plenty of food and drinks etc. I remember when I was young we went up to the Gold Coast (from Melbourne) quite a bit (by car) my sister and I were about 3 and 4 the first time, so long as you have a few toys and maybe a cassette/cd with some songs/nursery rhymes they should be ok.

do you think crayons and a colouring book would be a good thing to pack for ds1?

If he doesn't get travel sickness......go for it!!! Or a discman/walkman with his favourite music would be good too.
