Hi there,

I have 2 daughters - 2 years and 11 months old. My oldest daughter did not crawl only bum shuffled until 15 months when she decided to walk. Now, my youngest daughter is doing the same thing! She has just started and I am wondering whether I have done something wrong to them that has made them do this. HELP!

Hi,

Don't worry you've done nothing wrong every baby moves around differently before they walk. Check out the Huggies add for an example I think there's even a bum shuffler there. My nephew only ever commando crawled never on on his knees until the day he decided to walk!

I'd be interested to know if you or anyone in your family were bum shufflers.

No one on either side of our families have ever bum shuffled. That's what makes it so wierd. I have even spoken to aunties to see if anyone further on in the family have bum shuffled but no one has. I should just be grateful that they are heathly and are getting around - but the question is always in the back of your mind 'did I do anything wrong?'. Do you know of anyone else whose children bum shuffle?

Hi i agree with everything that has already been said. I knew a little boy who did this till he was about 17 months and he got up and walked when he was ready. He had no developmental problems, he was just fine. So don't worry, it is a just a different way of getting around and it obviously works well for your baby.

My nephew too bum shuffled until 14 months (same age as my son), and doesn't run in the family. Now both cousin boys are 2 1/2, there is no difference what so ever physically, mentally or socially! it's just a little different!

do you have wood or tiled floors ? my first never ever crawled in the conventional way, just did this funny little commando crawl kinda thing (not even a proper one !) and i'm convinced its because the floors were too hard for her. didn't cause any probs though

My cousins bub also bum shuffled. My daughter only crawled once or twice, then walked at 6 1/2 months. I was accused by older women of crulety for making her walk. I never forced her. I think because she was my first, she got sick of being left behind. Funny thing was she couldn't sit up properly by herself untill she was 10 months. My son bum shuffled, comando crawled, monkey crawled(on all fours but knees not touching the floor) & he cralwled "normaly". I guess what ever suited him at the time.
Your kids are completely normal so don't worry abit. :D
