I was just wondering when I stop steralising DS's bottles? He's a little over 3 months now and I know that I still have to do it at the moment, but do I stop being so pedantic about it once he's on solids, or should I keep doing it for 12 months??? When he starts solids do I steralise his spoon and cup too??

Hi. I stopped with my first after 12 months. I didn't sterilise her bowl and spoon though - I guess that's up to you.

I had a rule...when he became old enough to lick the floor, fly screen, kitchen cupboards and suck on rugs....the sterilising stopped!

I am still sterilising the damn thing and she is 21 months! I think it might just be a habit now, but I can't stand the smell of the formula and the steriliser does help with that.

I'm still sterilising the bottles and Thomas is 8 months old and a bit. Mind you tho, for his solid food stuff eg spoons etc I just chucked them in the dishwasher and no need to sterilising them

Its not going to hurt you to sterilised everything as long as you want to, if you have the luxurious time to do it :D

DS is 7 months old and in a way I still sterilise but not to the extent I used to. What I do now is wash all the bottles in hot soapy water and then rinse them in the next sink which is filled with water from the kettle that has just boiled. I also do this with all his spoons and plates.

Yes, I totally have a luxurious time doing it - I look forward to it, it's so much fun :p Actually I have a microwave steraliser so it's not really any hassle, therefore I might just keep going until he's 12 months or so.....

Thanks girls

Like O's Mom I stopped sterilising as soon as my babies started putting their fingers in their mouth etc.

I just washed bottles etc in hot soapy water with our dishes then rinsed them in hot water. Neither of my kids ended up with any type of bacterial infection etc, so it must have been enough!

DD is just over 6 months and rolling around the floor, she is now only having 2 bottles a day plus water so we are thinking we might stop as soon as we run out of Milton's. DD and DS often swap dummies, share drink bottles and food. I will just wash all dishes and cups in hot water and rinse in cold and store bottles in the fridge.
