Hi Ladies,
After many years of discussing the idea of "BABY", my partner and I have decided to try and conceive in 2007 (excited, scared, nervous, happy).
I would love any advice about what I should be doing to try and conceive #1.
So far I have .....
Go to your GP + done, needed chicken pox vaccination (2), also gave me a whooping cough vaccination script.
Start pregnancy vitamins + done, I am using blackmores pregnancy gold just because of the fish oil content. Are the elevit vitamins better? Just asking because I have noticed that they are advertised here. Are there any suggested vitamins for the man?
Build up those leg muscles (also general fitness)- two people I know that are in there late stages of pregnancy told me that they wished some had told them to get those legs strong before they conceived.
Stay relaxed - If it doesn't happen the first/second/third/fourth ect time, dont worry the odds are that it will eventually happen.
Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

welcome aboard allegra.
how exciting for you!
i also went and made sure i was up to date with the pap smear thingo. they took swabs and so on and checked for STDs.
another useful thing is to know your cycle length ahead of when you TTC, so to be able to work out when you are late for your period and so on. can you estimate when you will ovulate in your cycle?

You sound like you are doing all the right things, well done for thinking it through so thoughtfully.
Now I hesitate to give you this advice because I dont want you to get obsessed like some of us here :shame: are and I want you to stay relaxed  and 'go with the flow' but I know the importance of charting your Basal Body Temperature (BBT). Im not sure what you know about it but you can find out more here www.fertilityfriend.com. You will be able to track just where in your cycle you are Ovulating and also of course confirm that you are.
Here's hoping you quickly fall with no problems along the way! :fingerscrossed:

Hi
My best advice is... dont become obsessed with ttc. The more you 'try' the more dissapointment you feel when AF comes to visit.
Remember it will probably take longer than you hope for. That is normal. But if it happens quickly BONUS!!
Good luck:fingerscrossed:
Sounds like you have it all sorted to me
Elevit are good to except they do not have fish oil or iodine - both of which are pretty important. So I think Blackmores should be good
I agree that temping can help you know what your cycles are up to and you will be able to work out your fertile time - but for starters you may as well just take the relaxed approach.
Good luck :fingerscrossed:

Everything that you are doing sounds perfect! Good luck to you and your partner! It is easy to become obsessed about TTC (I know because I have been very obsessive!) so relax and enjoy!
I am also taking Blackmores Pregnancy too. The fish oil makes me want to :barf:
All the best!

I am up to date with my pap smear but I haven't even thought about STDs ... must get that checked out at next GP appoinment.

Great website .... looks like I have a lot of reading to do over the holidays
Ummm, have sex? lol

funny you say that because DP is only asking questions about this part of the baby making making/cooking experience ... questions like "how many times" "how many days" ect

I think I might fall into the category of "too obsessive" but I hope DP knows me well enough to help distract me if things dont go to plan
Sounds like you have it all sorted to me

OH dear how does iodine help ... more reading to do

All the best!
I think that it may be causing my upset tummy when I take it on an empty stomach
Thanks for the advice

Hi Allegra,
I am in the same situation, trying for # 1 starting in Jan. I am 32 and my husband is 36. Have also been taking Blackmores mulitvitamins for several months and came off the pill a couple months ago. I have been a vegetarian for many years and have introduced fish into my diet simply to try and prepare better for conceiving!
Also had chickenpox vaccination and checked immunity for rubella
This month I have cut back a lot on alcohol..no more drinking wine to relax but trying other things..
Good luck!

Yeah, I was going to say get your rubella immunity checked. A few years back the Govt. was doing a big campaign to get women 18 -30 to get the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) booster. As we were gearing up to TTC at the time I ended up getting the booster for my 30th birthday. Sounds like your doing it all right. Have fun and best of luck on your TTC journey :D

best of luck!!
i second (third?) taking your temps. i am an obsessive compulsive person  and having something to do every day was great! but obviously not for everyone. i had a long cycle - six weeks - but regular, so i wasn't sure if i was ovulating at all, so temps helped. but i only got to do one cycle & BFP
i would spend the next couple of months getting to know your cycle (prob go off BCP so you are back to your own cycle & not a false one) so that you know the best days to BD. as for how often? during your fertile period (3 days before O & day of O) more is good. UNLESS there is a problem with low sperm count. but every second day is fine. those spermies can hang out for a while waiting for mrs egg.
GOOD LUCK!! :wizard:

Hi can'twait,
I was up to date with my immunization shots, only needed the chicken pox vaccination.
How long are you waiting until you try and conceive #1? My doctor said it was alright to wait only one month after the vaccination but on the packaging it says to wait three months.
Good luck in January :)

When in the past i had multivitamins on an empty stomach it made me awfully sick! I also had a friend that was complaining of feeling ill etc, a few weeks later she told me she was having a multi every day - turned out she too was having them on an empty tum!
Have them with food. Im taking elevit and i have never had a stomach upset yet. I also have omega tabs as well.

Hi Allegra,
The doctor also said one month so that's all I'm waiting, I've also read the same everywhere I've looked, only the info that comes with the vaccine is different. Apparently the incubation period of chickenpox is up to 21 days, so you would know by then if you had developed any symptoms from the vaccine. My month is up in 3 weeks time so I am starting then! I think will just be in time for ovulation. :fingerscrossed:

Hi Allegra.
My biggest tip is to get your partner to take Zinc supplements. My DH found this out himself and went out and bought some (so cute when he tries to help!) He feels the 'build up' of sperm the same day when he takes the Zinc, whereas if he doesn't it takes a few days for him to feel that discomfort. And actually the month he started taking it was when l fell pregnant last time.
Also, most people agree that you should BD every second day throughout the month (for optimum sperm 'freshness' and number :) ) then during the ovulation window BD every day for a few days.
Best of luck!
:fingerscrossed: Wishing you the very runniest cervical mucous :barf: :D
Here is some info on why iodine is important during pregnancy;
