Canestan and Pregancy

Hi guys, I'm pretty new here, was registered ages ago but haven't been on in a very long time. Currently I have a 4 1/2 year old girl. I need some advice. I've been having some problems with thrush lately and nothing was working so took an oral tablet last monday 11 December. My breasts started hurting on the weekend and did a pregnancy test this morning. It had a very faint positive on it!! Now I am really concerned, if I am pregnant would the canestan tablet have had an effect on the foetus? I am going to the doctor this afternoon but that's not until about 6pm and I'm really starting to worry!! I know if it was faint I may not even be pregnant but if I am....

I had some thrush issues during my pregnancy and the chemist gave me the creme, but the one you insert with a stick :eek: (if you know which one I mean? )

I was worried too, but was told that this doesn't harm the baby in any way ......:thumbsup:

Firstly, Welcome to BubHub :D

Canestan will have no affect on the baby.. both the oral or the one you insert into your vagina and neither will the canestan cream. The OB's do recommend using canestan whilst pregnant if you have thrush, so i think you are safe there :thumbsup:

I was told that the oral tablet wasnt safe in pregnancy - and to be very carful with applicators otherwise.

Having said that - Id thing you would be pretty safe even having taken the tablet as its only early days....

Very nasty!! But this was the oral tablet, everything I've read says it shouldn't be taken while pregnant... I used the pessary while I was pregnant last time but not the oral medication

Starting to feel a bit better now, thanks guys!! Now to just wait and see this afternoon with the doctor, and to confirm if I am or not!! Unsure about this..

Hi gigalot, I too took the tab on the 13th of this mth, we are ttc at the mo, I read the pack after taking it and it said not to take while b/feeding, preg or ttc, so I sure panicked, I did a bit of googling and chatted to a couple of nurses and a pharmacist, and they all said that I should be right as long as i didn't concieve within the 3 days after taking the tab, so cause I couldn't gaurantee it ive decided to hold of ttc for a mth, as I couldn't risk it

with the googling that I did, I found out that you have to take huge doses of the tab for somthing to happen to the baby, i'm just a bad gambler and not willing to take any risk, my next pregnancy is going to be a good one

i currently have thrush and am 33 weeks pregnant, i was told that you cant safely take the tablets while pregnant, especially in the first trimester. I was also told that you cant use the applicator thingos either. i was given the pessaries and just told to insert them myself, just not too far (only as far as comfortable)

Im sure you will be fine tho, as gizmo said, im sure it is only a major issue if you take large amounts of the drug itself.

If in doubt and thrush is still around, get the pessaries not the oral tabs.

i had thrush with my first son it was on a stick and a tablet was inserted on it and i inserted it in but i didnt affect the baby as the gyno told me to get it.
