Hi Maxs-MumMy
Very wet W/E, thinking it might be a good idea to curl up on the lounge and watch a good movie. DS loves watching telly keeps him amused for hours.
I have heard that too much TV for babies isn't good for them don't know if that true.
my son always watches t.v well he doesnt sit and only watch t.v he is always playing and looking up when something catches his attention... i dont think it is to bad for them... maybe if thats all they ever did it might be... but he has watched it since he was tiny...
i love the rain ! if it was all the time i would be peed off but i got all my washing done yesterday when it was soooo hot ! only problem with todays rain the thunder woke bubba up really early and he doesnt like thunder so was shaking till it finished.
partner is on the couch watching the kid chilling out... so yay free time for me !

My Hubby is asleep in bed(works nights w/ends) and bub is asleep on his activity mat on floor.I hope he doesn't have trouble sleeping tonight with daylight saving starting, he normally goes to sleep at 7.30 but I'm trying to get him to sleep a little earlier.
Cody's now 6 months at what age do babies start to sit on their own?
gawd i didnt even think about day light savings i have a fun time trying to get mine into bed before 9 !
my son didnt sit up on his own till about 8 months... but he did everything later then "average". except teeth.

I must be really lucky DS loves his sleep, he sleeps 12 hours a night and has about 4 sleeps through the day.
But boy does he get cranky if he doesn't sleep enough.
omg. you have it good !!!!!
mine still wakes up in the night for no apparant reason but to switch beds...lol where ever i am in the house he will find me at 3am.
he has NEVER slept a full night meaning from 9 (bed time) till 6am (wake up)
and only has a nap before lunch for about 30 mins to 1 hour !!!
half the time he isnt in bed till 10 - 11 pm
and wakes up before you can ever see the sun.. and refuses to stay in bed !

Oh you poor thing.
The whole time I was pregnant I talked myself into thinking that I was going to have a child that constantly screamed, so I was so happy that I ended up with such a happy baby.
DS started sleeping through from 6 weeks
Keep in there it can only get better.
no i think it is great and gets worse as they get older...
we are in the potty training stage !!! and i HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT !!!
he talks back now...
he screams 100 times louder than he ever did as a tiny baby...
he has a mind of his own now... ohh the good old days how you could tell them what to do and what they liked and didnt like... now he does what he wants and isnt so easily manipulated into liking things that i feel he should like.... lol
and ohhh imagine teenagers...
i guess it gets better at one point when they leave home....lol

(holding sides laughing)
I guess your right I should be really enjoying these days. I don't even know how I'm going to handle the crawling and walking stage, I'm sure I'll be using the word "NO" 1000 times a day!
Everyone keeps telling me I'll have to move things off coffee tables etc and I keep saying "not me" as DS is getting older I can see that this might not be the case.
lol... use the word no so often within weeks he will be saying it right back to you !
baby proofing the house never ends... once they cant reach anything anymore they become creative and chairs and toys become stepping stools.
it's such hard work sometimes but we all love it !!!
country life
30-10-2005, 18:39
Oh the joys of it all.
I'm really enjoying being a mother can't wait for DS to start talking :D
and I love taking him out and about he really loves it. He is going to be an experienced shopper by the age of 5.
I'll have to use the straps in the stroller when he starts to walk. My hubby was one of those children that my MIL had to have a lead on him because he kept running off. So I'm preparing myself for that too!
teach them to shop thats the way !!! mine is a exspert at shopping !!!
he knows the notes are more valuble then coins
and when grocery shopping with him i can guarantee a $80.rise with him than without him from the normal total ammount !!!
ohhh and he also learnt the valuable lesson of tantrum and embarrasing people to get his own way !!!
country life
30-10-2005, 19:04
What's the best way to stop them having a tantrum without giving them what they want?
there is a way to stop without giving anything to them ????
i havnt found it yet... if i walk away and just leave him he screams louder and yells means things out like ... Your ugly... or something to get my attention !
and if i say fine when you get home your going on the naughty chair he screams louder...
and if i just pick him up and carry on shopping he screams louder.
and if i say were going home he screams louder all the way home and while we are at home untill he gets distracted by something or makes himself sick.
if you try distracting him sometimes it works but not for long... only untill he finds something else he wants
so usually we compramise ! we choose something SMALL and cheep that will keep him quiet !!!
if you have any sugestions i would gladly try them....lol

I now live in Melbourne but I did live and work in Newcastle for about 5 years (moved away in 2001 for work).
Both mine and DH's family live either in New or C/Coast. We visit area every Xmas except this yr as we want one Xmas at home with the DDs.
Whilst I don't live there anymore I'd still love to chat about stuff and Newcastle gossip (if there really is any :)

Hi dmaree
Not much happening in Newcastle but rain at the moment. I guess you would be used to that in Melbourne.
Everytime I go to the foreshore I swear that another apartment block or highrise has gone up. No longer is Newcastle a small town it seems to be growing at an alarming rate.
yep same .. always a new building already built or another on the way...
and the shopping there sucks now.. they tryed to make some markets in the mall but reports have said it is a misserable failure.
country life
30-10-2005, 20:32
Yes I heard the same thing about the markets apparently they are just the shops in the mall with stall outside (prices are the same)
Can't wait for the bigger and better charlestowm sq to be built!!!!!
Excellent shopping in Erina, went a few weeks ago and went bererk:D
As you can tell I'm a shopaholic
LOVE EBAY
i'm a EBAYAHOLIC too !!!
ohhh and i LOVE ERINA ! will be so awsome when finished !!!
Glendale is growing too... that will be great when finished too...

Very boring although I like Saks they are always getting in new gear.

30-10-2005, 20:52
I used to shop heaps at Charlestown and I can't remember the other major centre close to Charlestown (mummy brain).
I have to say Tuggreah shopping is the best though.
yeah it could do with a few new shops... but we have almost everything... except we need a fresh fruit and vegie store !!! i miss that back in wallsend. but woolworths does a good job anyways.
and im to fat for saks...lol but i like 16/26 ! but they REALLY need a good kids clothing store too !!! like pumpkin patch ... my all time favourite store for my bubs !
do you go to the chicken butchers in the old shopping centre across from saxbys ???
it has these yummy chicken wrap things...lol you have to try them... i make everyone i know try them and they all LOVE them too !!! get the chicken cheese and garlic ones.
country life
30-10-2005, 21:00
No haven't tried there, I get my chicken at Lenards in new plaza.
Have u tried the fruit and veg shop at Motto Farm?
no i didnt even know there was one there... but thinking of it just as you come into the terrace there is a fruit and veg shop !!! but it isnt really good.. i forgot it was there untill now.

Hi Dmaree
Thank you I forgot about Tuggerah, i'll have to organise a shopping trip there.
Thank goodness I got DS used to shopping from day 1.
I had a C-Section with him and the day I got out of hospital we stopped at Greenhill Shopping Centre.

Wow you girls can talk.
Coming from Sydney originally I still miss the shopping. I think to myself "yep I need this it comes from this shop bugger that shop is in Syd" and I do that regularly too.
The centres up here are just too small for my liking.
it must be a boy thing... my son eats HUGE ammounts of food and from the day i started formula always dranks a full bottle !!!
my 3yr old eats more than i do !!!
he can eat half a pizza
or 8 slices of toast some mornings for breaky
always has 2-3 sandwhiches 1 is never enough
and he drinks HEAPS !!! never stops drinking water or juice
the family literally is stuck staring at him at family dinners watching such a little boy eat so much....
im the opposite harrys mum.
when i shop in sydney i never know which way to go next or whats where... i get so confused and tired from all the walking... lol

Hope it goes well Suesie,
My BIL had it done and he said it was the best thing he ever did. My DH is looking into it too. It's very annoying for him when Harry pulls off his glasses.

Hi MUMMY
The op went well, had full sight virtually straight away and NO pain! YEAH:)
No more contacts or glasses!!!!!
Thank you for asking. anything exciting happening in your neck of the woods?
WOW. no pain full sight right away... thats awsome....
probably not exciting for you but my son used the big toilet for the first time ever the other day... i feel bad because i lied to him saying his potty was broke so we needed to use the big toilet now... but he was fine with it.. but kept saying he was going to ask daddy for fix it... hopefully by the time he gets back from my mothers house he will forget about it and continue using the big toilet... mum said he is using it fine at her house ... so all is going GREAT !!! only for wees though... and it is usually sitting down not standing...
ohh and the fact that i have had no kid from wednesday till sunday is awsome too !
other than that a totall of NOTHING ois happening here... we have some rain right now... but im sure you getting it too...
country life
04-11-2005, 22:06
It must be a HUGE hurdle overcome using the big peoples toilet. YEAH!
I can't even imagine having to toilet train  hope I have the patience.
Hope you really enjoy your baby free time. When I went to Sydney yesterday on the drive home I started to miss DS greatly I couldn't wait to pick him up. It's funny how much you can miss them when you haven't seen them for a few hours,as he gets older I might change my mind and want him to go to nannys more often so I can have some R & R.
We have just had a storm here lightning has been very close but it's great to have some more rain.
it was a huge hurdle.. we tryed starting off straight with the "big toilet" so i wouldnt have to worry about pottys and not being able to go out in public and stuff, but he wouldnt have it !... it will make like ALOT more easyer now using a big toilet. next step trying to make him tell me when it is time for a number 2 ! thats the only hurdle we need to jump now !
i do enjoy my baby free time.. but sometimes it is a bit much ... specially when he is gone for more than 1 night... my mother has always been close with my bubba and has taken him since the first month of age... i cant really say no because i will feel bad but at the same time i dont want him to go to much because he is like my handbag... i am LOST without him !!! i dont function without a kid straped to my leg nagging me all day long. dont know what i will do when he starts school .. might have to make more... 'LOL
i love the rain in HOT weather like this... make a nice cool change.

I'm a long way off the school stage, but with the way the last 6 months have flown i'm sure they be around in no time.
The way I look at it He's all mine till he starts school and then I guess he'll have other people in his life that will influence him, so i'm enjoying my time with him now and i've realised that every day is precious and they grow up so quick.
it feels like bubba was only born last week... i dont know where all that time went...
i call him bubba and he says mummy im a big boy now.. but i keep saying no you'll always be my bubba . which then he just growls at me...lol
i wish they would NEVER grow up...

04-11-2005, 22:35
LOL
I am constantly kissing DS and hubby always says don't kiss him so much he's a boy.
I'm getting in as many kisses as I can before he won't let me kiss him any more, although a lot of people have told me that little boys are mummys boys and love cuddles.
Have you found that?
noooooooooo....
kiss my son and he will lick his hand and wipe the kiss off him !!!
he will only give hello and good bye kisses.... and sometimes but rarely kisses when you ask nicely but you have to do alot of convincing !!!
i always cuddled and kissed him when he was little too...
except when he is playing "cute" when he wants lots of attention and pretneds to be a tiny baby who needs to be cradled and rocked... thats the best times with him... reminds me of how little he use to be and how i could hold him with 1 arm...
now it is 2 arms and struggling to hold him more than a few mins without getting a cramp !
country life
04-11-2005, 22:49
LOL
Gee I think my DS is heavy now and I can't hold him for too long or I feel my arm is going to drop off.
i remember carrying a smaller baby around the shops my arms would go dead with no feeling from the weight...
and then the back gets sore....
and then the legs....
and eventually you had enough and pass them over to partner...lol
are you happy with a son is that what you secretly wanted?? i love that i had a boy first i did want a girl but when i think about it i was glad i was having a boy... but now i want a girl !!! i REALLY want a girl i wont stop till i get one... thats when i decied to start again...lol
country life
04-11-2005, 23:11
For years I was positive i was going to have a girl first
We wanted to know the sex before the bub was due
I clearly remember the sonographer drawing a circle around a tiny willy and she said definetly a boy.
Hubby had tears in his eyes as he really wanted a boy and I had tears in my eyes as I was positive I would have a girl.
Now I can't imagine having a girl and I wouldn't swap him for the world.
We are trying for another at the moment and I think another boy would be nice although hubby now really wants a girl.
Not sure how long it might take us to fall preggers this time, with DS we were trying for close to 4 years had 2 failed IVF attempts 1 m/c and fell pregnant with DS naturally.... We call him our little miracle.
It would be nice to have another one but I guess it's out of hands ,definately couldn't go through IVF emotionally again although we do have 1 frozen embryo that we might get implanted early next year if nothing happens naturally.
it's strange how things turn out sometimes... im sure it all happens for a reason....
lol.. i loved your reactions... yours was exactly mine too... i was 100% it would be a girl. coming from a all girl family i didnt even think of having a boy !
