Hi all,

Just wanted to share a moment I had today that made me feel as though I am now officially ............ a MUMMY. I made (after much chatting with friends and family) my very first themed birthday cake :smiliedance: . I made a Raggs the dog cake for my little mans first birthday party today (a year already  ...).

After much searching on the net, I had to 'go it alone' and start from scratch as there were no instructions or anything for what I wanted. I think it turned out ok, so I took a pic (http://picasaweb.google.com.au/blairsmummy/BlairSFirstBirthday15thDecember2006/photo#5008795829275844050) so you can have a look at my 'debut' into mummyhood. I reached MOTHERhood when I held and fed DS for the first time (so precious), but MUMMYhood (I have now decided) is all that comes after the 1st birthday!!

The whole experience reminded me of all the years I saw my mum and her friends paw over the women's weekly kids cakes books, and seemed to compete as to who could come up with the best cake  . I guess I'm lucky, as there are no other bubs in our friends and families right now - meaning no comparisons!!! So of course mine's the best *lol*.

DS's 1st party was so much fun for so many reasons, that we all had an awesome day. What a high!!!

It got me thinking though, what was the best cake you ever had as a kid? Mine was probably the tried and true barbie with a marshmallow ball gown skirt :D . Ahhh......... the good 'ol days!

LOL congratulations!...Im afraid, that i didnt have the opportunity to make a cake for dds 1st birthday, so i reached mummyhood by driving down to the bakery and asking the lady to whack dds name and some pink flowers on a cake lol.

By the way, the cake looks FAB-U-LOUS!

I think you should make a raggs cake tutorial!...Care to share on how you did it? :D

Wow! Thanks everyone......

The smile and look of recogition of 'who the cake was' on my little mans face, made the 3 VERY awkward hours I spent creating (and at times cursing under my breath :p ) at 2 in the morning all worth while.

As some of my guests have asked for instructions as well, I'll post them here when I've got them ready. If it cuts down some workload for someone else, then it would be my pleasure. I have a newfound respect for cake decorators now, and will NEVER moan at the prices of these cakes again  .

As for the blue icing question, I used the Queen blue colouring and added a little of the black colouring in the same brand. I just kept adding until I got the colour I wanted. One word of warning though, it did turn tongues a little blue!!! Not for long though, so why worry I say?!?!?! *lol*

Thanks once again for all your kind words. It really was a sense of acheivement to see the finished product. :chef: (always wanted to use that pic!!!)
