Hi everyone,

I am interested in hearing from anyone who is using/has used acupucture in TTC.

What are your experiences??

Very good. I started accupuncture and TCM at the beginning of August and conceived during October. We'd been letting nature "do it's thing" for most of the year to no avail.

My pracitioner diagnosed a hormone imbalance after a week and adjusted the needles as he needed to.

I also have a history of irregular, extremely heavy and painful periods and he worked wonders. A miracle almost!

After I conceived he worked on 'protecting' the fetus and for the few days of nausea I had, he worked to get rid of it (I had no m/s with number 1).

After Christmas I'll only go as I need to. I had bad back pain with DS so he said he can help with that. And I'm hoping things progress 'naturally' this time (I was induced at 10 days over last time) and will certainly visit him to help me if I need to.

My only concern is the cost - we are on a single wage and don't have private health cover. It costs me $45/session and $20 per medication (I'm on three different ones that last a bit over a week each).

I actually have a horrendous cold at the moment and since all I can have is panadol (might as well medicate with Smarties) I can't wait for my session next week.

Big  from me.

Thank you so much Spewiesmum! It is fantastic to hear a positive story about acupuncture working for someone. We have also been TTC for the better part of the year with no luck. I started acupuncture this week and am thinking positively, I have heard the success rates with this treatment are quite high, but thought I would check within the BubHub community.

I agree about the cost, it can be quite expensive. I had bad m/s with #1 and am interested in using acupuncture if the need arises.. but really at this point, I would welcome it!

thank you so much for sharing!! It has boosted my positive thinking for sure.

That's cool Jack'smum. My husband is somewhat sceptical and thinks I'm being ripped off. However, from the first month where my practicioner helped with period pain and flow it was amazing. No pill has ever done that. I was a completely different woman. And I was also a little sceptical so I know I didn't think or talk myself into the positive experience.

I forgot to mention - I also go twice a week so:eek: that's where it's a tad pricey.

Did you have 'take away' needles? As in, tiny needles that were put into the skin and kept there until the next appointment?

I think I am skeptical by nature too, but I felt amazing after the first session, very relaxed and light. Having a toddler, this is no mean feat to relax me like that!

no takeaway needles (apart from one that fell out and managed to end up in the back of my undies which I didn't discover till I got into the car one day:D ).

I do have my liver or kidneys massaged (with something like a TENS machine I think - it's all part of tweaking my Qi) and have a heat lamp (which is actually a powerful magnet) placed above my belly.

Sorry I'm a bit vague - congested and pregnant doesn't help me provide the best information by the looks of things!

I usually nap while I'm there - I actually think lots of his patients do. It is very relaxing.

He also gives me lots of recipes to help with my pregnancy, but as I'm a vego and the thought putting a baby chicken in boiling water tends to freak me out, I haven't prepared any dishes.

Yes that would freak any vegetarian out! You have been heaps of help, thanks so much.

I have 2 in my ear and one on my leg all taped down, very small ones. Apparently to keep working while I am at home.

I have another visit next week so I will keep my updates going in case anyone else is interested..

ask your practicioner if there is a book you can read about acupuncture. Mine bombards me with texts which are generally waaaaaay over my head, but from the bits I can understand, are just fascinating.

I have needles placed in my ears every now and then for 'immunology'. But it would also depend on where in the ear they are.

Good luck.

Hello:wave:

Well i started acupuncture about 7 wks ago, am trying to be positive but this is our 11th cycle of ttc and i've become very disheartened. (Think i'm just having a bad week)

I'm also drinking tea made from chinese herbs, it's not nice but :fingerscrossed: it works.

I sooooo hope that it works!

Have heard encouraging stories about it from other people so that's why i'm giving it a go.

Hi,

had my session of acupuncture. I've done a bit of research and there is some 'evidence' that it can help with egg quality, maintaining pregnancy and overall good hormone management.

Hope it does something for me :fingerscrossed: .

cheers lg
