I only just really noticed this section, and it made me start to think....

My intention was always to bank our cord blood, and this was told to the midwives etc when I was in labour.
I ended up having an emergency c/s, and afterwards dp asked about it, and they said that no, they weren't able to keep it. I didn't think any more of it at the time (my mind was on other matters!), but now I'm wondering why it was discarded.
Does anyone know if this is normal practice? ie cord blood cannot be kept with a c/s birth..?

Cord blood can be donated after a c/section. I had done all the organisation to donate mine but when they measured out how much there was, there wasn't enough unfortunately. I was so looking forward to doing it too.
From talking to the cord blood lady who does the collections, there is not problem at all with donating with c/sections normally.
ETA: It also depends on the time when the baby is born too though. My DS (vb) was born on the weekend and they didn't do collections then.
