Yay!! The new tins of the karicare thickener have the plastic lids on them now, just like the formula (well, the Heinze I know at least!)
No more digging around for a knife to open the old tin lids :smiliedance: :yelclap:
I know a bit sad getting excited over a lid......but :smiliedance: anyway!!!!

I was just as excited to see the plastic lids...although I did notice the instructions have changed - ie how much you should use. Was wandering if they changed the formula or just realised that 3 scoops for 200 mls was WAY too thick? It now recommends 2 scoops instead. We still only use 1 scoop!
What life would be like without a child with reflux...hmm...just imagine........

hmmm, didn't read the instructions!!!
I have still been using 3 scoops for 150mls and haven't noticed the difference.... there is more in a tin now too...380g instead of 300g....

HI!!
Just started using the thickener. I use 1 scoop for 150ml, to get Bianca used to this, should I increase this to 2 scoops. I first gave 2½ scoops for 150ml, but it wouldn't even drip out of the teat!!! (I have the old tin)
You girls obviously find that it works, do you also give your bubs meds as well (Bianca was diagnosed by Pero Clinic yesterday, and I'm taking her to GP tomorrow for meds)

Yeah the thickner really works. How much you add and how thick depends on your bub. I put 1 1/4 scoops for 150mls and that seems to be enough for my bub. My little one is also on zantac 4 times per day as well and this really helps. I find he doesnt drink a whole lot (compared to what the tins say he should ) only 150mls 6 times per day ut the thickner is heavier in their little stomachs so makes them fell fuller too.
I am an old hand at this reflux thing. My first baby also had it so it is just a continuation for me really. Don't know what it is like to have a baby without reflux.
Although I would like to have a lounge room without vomit stains all over the floor and lounge!

I took Bianca to the GP yesterday, who didn't want to prescribe Zantac, but wanted us to try infant gaviscon instead. I haven't found any major improvement... does it happen straight away, or does it take a while to build up, then start working???

Also, what type of teat do you use with the thickener?

My paed says it can take 2 weeks to see a difference beacuse it takes about that long for the throat to heal up from the burning stomach acid coming up so you may not see any difference for a couple of weeks.
In terms of teats I used avent bottles with my daughter and used the number 4 teats (fast flow) but my son will only drink out of narrow neck bottles so we use the pur teats with a medium flow teat as the holes are actually bigger (as opposed to just more holes with avent). I find the pur teast better as there are no blockages from the thickner. With my daughter they were forever blocking up and it was soooo frustrating. we kept her on thickner until she weaned off bottles, but stopped medication when she was 7 months old as her eflux kind of
disappeared over night.
