Have any other babies had this recently?

Liam had it last week and it was a very miserable time for both of us.

Not recently, but Louie had it a couple of months back, he was fairly sick, but he had just gotten over the worst case of flu I had ever seen in a baby, so I was devastated he was sick yet again!
Glad your little one is feeling better.
Do you know what causes it?
I never found out.

Hi CK. Can you tell me more of the symptons of this? I don't know of any child/baby that has had it but an elderly friend of mine gets it occasionally. it would be interesting to see if the symptons are similar in babies and older people.

This is from the sydney kids hosptial..

Roseola Infantum

Caused by the human herpes virus six and seven, roseola usually affects young children and infants and is characterised by a fever (as high as 39-40 C) followed by a and rash. The fever lasts for about two days and within hours of it subsiding, a maculopapular rash appears. The timing of the fever and rash is an important diagnostic clue because no other common viral illness has the same pattern.

Because caution should be observed in any young child with a high fever, children in the early undiagnosed stages of roseola are often admitted to hospital where they may undergo investigations for serious illnesses. A blood count, blood culture, urine sample and sometimes a lumbar puncture may be performed in an effort to find the cause of the temperature. When the temperature subsides and the rash appears, the diagnosis becomes evident.

Roseola is a benign disease but may be complicated by febrile convulsions.

Hope that help s and doesn't scare you some times it is TMI but i think it is some times better to have TMI than none at all..

Well our experience was this:

Last Thursday morning, 3.30am, Liam woke up screaming. He stayed awake until 9am, slept until midday. When he woke up he was still screaming and really hot. For the rest of the afternoon he was unsettled and we took him to the after hours GP. She diagnosed a UTI, put him on antibiotics and sent him for a urine test.

At 1am Friday morning, his temperature had raced up to 39.5 degrees despite being given panadol. He had also started vomiting the one feed he had that night. We took him to emergency where he vomited again. His temperature had gone up to 41 degrees - he was sponged down, given double the dose of nurofen and once his temperature had gone back to 38 degrees, we were sent home with a diagnosis of tonsilitis.

He was given panadol/nurofen throughout the weekend. His fever left Sunday morning, although he had refused all solids and breastmilk since Thursday. He had a little water.

Sunday afternoon, he became blotchy. By Monday his face, neck, back and chest was covered in a rash. Freaking out, we took him back to the GP were we were told it was roseola and spread like a cold/flu virus and nothing too worry about. He only got 100% better yesterday.

So basically its very common, bub will have a high fever first and when that subsides, will be covered in a rash. Bub is very contagious when at the fever stage.

We experienced this too today
Max's temp of 39. 7 started Friday and kept fluctuating until monday( Christmas day) we just put it down to teething as his mitts were in his mouth and the usual symptoms ie grissly off food etc. Then when he woke this morning i dropped him to my parents on the way to work and discovered a faint rash under the skin, we thought i could of been a rash from his high temps so mum took him to the drs and she gave us a referral to the hospital and told us he may have measles (DUD DR AS OURS WAS OFF)
So she grabbed me from work and we went to Randwick hosp and put in isolation for a few hrs until they worked out what was wrong they were very busy

Thank goodness we know what it is and that it is common
