Um, my BIL put the carseat in the car the other day and it had to go through the floor of the boot (the anchor point or whatever its called make sense) now I can't get the pram in and it has to go in the back seat. Its not so bad now but when bubba #2 comes along we are going to have to use the bigger pram (pram with toddler seat) as well as have 2 kids in the car-both in car seats. What should I do? BTW my car is a Ford Laser, I would LOVE a bigger car for our growing family but we can't afford it rught now. Should I MAYBE buy a double stroller/pusher thats not so bulky so that it DOES fit in the boot? (the only prob with this is there'd be nowhere to put the baby bag? What to do?

My sister used to have a dawoo matiz or what ever there called with 2 car seats and she used to have to squeeze the pram behind the front seats and the nappy bag went in the middle of the car seats... She has just brought a new car though so she didnt have to do it for to long.... but it was a real mission

Yeah this is what I am doing atm, squeezing the pram behind my seat (drivers seat) its a pretty light pram and all but because we are expecting #2 we are giong to have to use a bigger pram for a toddler and baby. I guess I should have thought about this before I bought my car hey?
It also wouldn't be very good if we have more ppl in the car (if someone needed a lift or whatever) maybe I can put THEM in the boot. Lol

With the bigger pram, can you take wheels off? Mine has the wheels off to go in our boots.
Also it wouldnt take much to unhook from the point and put pram in and re-hook and tighten...

I don't think the wheels come off it is an old pram, I don't think its a bad idea to unhook the carseat I might give this a go. Is it easy to unhook?

i have a Holden 3 wheeler stroller and i have to take the back wheels off the stroller to get it into the boot of my car (mitsubishi lancer) other wise the boot will not close
You could look into having somone modify your car so that the anchor point is on the ceiling at the rear of the car. If you can get someone to do it professionally, they can reinforce it and it will just as legal as using the one already made into your car.
Not sure who you would go to to do this, but I do know it is possible as many older cars don't have an anchor point and need to have one manufactured for them.

New anchor points sound like a good idea.
I ruined the new pram we got for DS by squeezing it into the boot  :o ... I've still got the same (but now squeaky & crooked) pram, but ended up with a $40k car!

Personally I dont think its really safe to undo the carseat then do it back up, as they say to not have things against it, either pulling on it for safety reasons......
I know how you feel, I had a 1980 Chrysler Lancer (fastback) & could fit the pram in but nothing else.
In the end we had to get a loan for a new (secondhand) car.......it was the only option for us in the end.....
You don't just have to have a small car to have propblems with prams and boots I had the Holden 3 wheeler pram and loved it but it wouldn't fit in to my holden boot I had to take it back cause i wasn't taking the wheels off every time i put it in..
So i got a new pram in the end that folds down better..
I was goign to bye the Mazda 6 but i would of had the propblem your having with the belt and it has a big boot but the strap goes all the way back to the lights..
You would think they woud think about things like this when they make the cars...
Like holden making the HOLDEN pram fit into the top of the range Holden..
They need more women to help design the cars..

Youll have to sell the car then!! Someone on the radio had just bought a new honda civic and the pram she bought wouldnt fit in the car so what do you think went back???
...
......
Thats right!!!!!!! The car went back, gotta have the pram we love!!

you need to be careful what you have in the car with you rather than in the boot as well. If you brake suddenly or are in an accident the things that are in with you will fly around. One ambulance guy told my mum that even a box of tissues can be lethal if there is enough force behind the crash.

We do this depending on which pram we are using at the time... No issues for us at all and as long as you ensure it is tight and secure its all good...

Whats wrong with undoing the clip and redoing it again.... as long as its tight and secure it doesnt make a difference..
And nothing is against it as the pram basically sit underneath/behind the strap.. hence having to undo it to place the pram in.. it doesnt make contact with the strap in any way..

I think that the concern is that the pram may move around in the boot while you are travelling and contact with the strap.

So what.. any cars with this kind of strap in the boot arent allowed any items whatsoever in the boot incase it moves around and comes in contact with the strap??
If so then why would they have made cars with this kind of strap?? They have to abide by safety regulations and wouldnt be allowed to produce something if unsafe???
Anyways my boot is sunken (as most are) so even if my pram slides it doesnt come in contact with the strap as the strap connects higher than the pram at the boots opening... So im not concerned personally.. :)

It was only an 'I think'. I am not sure what the reason is for that one.

lol, Matthew cost me $20 000 because I had to get a new car too.....Excels aren't big enough for 3 kids.
In the excel too, I had to unhook and rehook 2 anchorage points to get the pram in....the tether straps never had anything touching them, I just couldn't get the pram in without doing it.

oh yeh i know... i was just thinking out loud how silly it would be if that was the case.. what a waste of space/safety issue... kwim...:)

Thanks for the replies. My SIL showed me how to clip and unclip the seat so that the pram can fit under the strap, it doesn't touch it at all coz the boot is pretty deep. Its just annoying having to do that all the time. I wish I had money to buy a big family car but we don't. Thanks again.
