View Full Version : Poll - Do you wake your child?

I just read the Bubhub Oct Newsletter article on preparing bub's sleeping pattern for the change to daylight savings time. And it struck me that in the example given, the author kept saying, for example... "when you wake your baby at 7am...".
I have never ever woken my daughter at a set time, either in the morning or at naps. Yesterday she napped for 3 hours. She's nearly 2 years old, 3 hours should be way too long according to most books, but she woke on her own at 5 and went back down to bed at her usual 7:30pm, so she obviously needed it.
So my question is: How many people wake their bubs, and how many just let them sleep to their own needs. Feel free to post a reply explaining why, but please also use the poll.
Thanks :) Looking forward to seeing the result.

I do wake my son but only at night before I go to bed...
He has his feed about 7:30pm and goes straight to sleep and then I wake him about 11-11:30pm before I go to sleep... This way he wakes at about 6am instead of 3am..
Not sure how to use the poll - sorry! :(

Yep I usually wake her. Otherwise she will sleep all day. She doesn't have a nap during the day most of the time as she simply refuses to. And she is still up at 12:42 which does tend to drive me nuts. I think she has the same sleep problems as me. But once she does go to sleep in her bed, she will sleep for a good 12 hours.
No I Never wake my kids - Apart from the fact they wake between 4.30 and 5am I figure if they are asleep they must need it.
Ok just saw the Poll at the top but how do I vote?
:( It says 'You may not vote on this poll'
Why not? I want to vote. I don't feel very special now......
I only wake ds if there's a really good reason to - ie we're going out, we have an appointment, or the house is on fire.

I have never woken my son, I always work everything around his sleep or have someone on standby if I've got an appointment.
I would NEVER wake my ds!
I can't vote either???

OH, how I WISH I could wake up Libby at 7am in the morning, instead of her waking ME at 5am!!!
No, seriously though, as a rule, I don't wake her unless it is on the rare occasion that an appointment or similar has cut into her nap time. In truth, I've probably done it less than 5 times because I tend to work my errands around her nap times like most of the mums here.
She is a very early riser, so no chance of me going and waking her up like all the TV mummies seem to have to do with their babies!
By the way, Martha, I have no idea how to use the poll - I'll try clicking on the top right corner and see what happens....
nope, that did nothing - just took me back to the thread.

I can't vote either!??
I never wake DD unless we have an appointment to go....which is very rarely. She still sleeps her normal 10-12 hours at night regardless though. And on occasions when we are at friends house for dinner, we will put her down at her bed time there. When leaving we try to get her straight to the car without her waking and if she does, she goes straight back to sleep once we get home.

I was trying to figure this out the other day, do I wake my DS if he is sleeping a long time just before his 6pm feed and bed time. I have loosened his wrap to encourage him to wake, but I felt terrible! Some of the books I have read advocate that you wake them (contented little baby & the baby whisperer) but I am starting to think that bub knows best!
I can not vote either....
Cant vote either but think I'm in the minority here. I do wake my baby at 7am if she's not awake...usually she is though :D If she seems tired I just put her back down early for another nap.
Like everything all bubs and mums are different and you just have to work out what suits you both best.
Just want to share my joy here - last night she slept from 11pm until 6.45am this morning. (Think I'm crazy though cause I kinda missed that middle of the night feed but I suppose if she dosent want it  )
I can't vote either - but I never wake DS in the mornings - he wakes us! AND not at 7am :)
I do tend to wake him if he is sleeping too long in the avo - ie. 4:30 wake up after putting down at 2ish - because I want him in bed by 7.

I never wake my DD1 (2 yrs) unless she's gone down for a nap later than usual and i have an appointment, or if she's gone down at like 3pm and at isn't awake by 5pm (which is very rare), otherwise she won't go to bed until like 10pm!!
DD2 is 11 weeks and i sometimes have to wake her at 9.30 for a feed before i go to bed otherwise she's up at about 1am. And i sometimes wake her if i can only get an appointment at a certain time....
I never wake my kids of a morning and wouldn't even dream of it!! Lately DD2 has been sleeping til 9am after a 4am feed! Yay!!
No,I never wake DD up,unless we have an appointment to go to .I figure she'll wake up when she's good and ready.
I can't vote either,says I'm not allowed???

I prefer not to wake the girls as they don't sleep to well at night. The only time i wake them is if we have to be somewhere at a certain time.

Something seems to be messed up with the poll. You should be able to click a circle next to each answer. But I assume you're all seeing results?
I don't know how to fix it! There is another poll on donating cord blood that is working. Hmmmm.
Mmmmm, I just voted and it worked fine.....
Not sure what's going on.
Anyway, I just Eloise wake up of her own accord in the mornings (anywhere from 7 to 9) but for her lunchtime nap I try not to let it go past three hours, usually it's only 2ish. She goes to bed between 7 and 7.30 and sleeps right though.
