When Did You Get A Heartbeat On An U/s?

I had my first ultra-sound yesterday and i thought i may have been about 8 weeks pregnant but the ultra-sound technician dated me at more like 5-6 weeks and we only saw the yolk sack and she says she was pretty sure she had a heart beat but i didnt get to see one.my hcg levels were at 10,800 and they said thats a good sign.

Is it common not to see a clear heartbeat at a 5-6 week ultra-sound? the dr didnt seem all that concerned but they really didnt tell me much.

We saw a heart beat when I was 6 weeks and 3 days with an internal ultrasound. Everyone is different so sometimes it can take longer for it to be picked up.

I think the norm is between 6-8 weeks. Are you going back for another scan?

yeh i have to go to my regular gp next week for the ultra-sound report as u had the u/s at the hospital and im going to request and 8 week scan i dont want to wait any longer to get a better idea of whats going on

I think generally the heartbeat is seen around 6-6.5 weeks. I'd be surprised if there was one prior to 6 weeks. So if you are only 5-6 weeks, its probably not surprising that it was difficult to see anything.

What was it that made you think that you were 8 weeks? When did you get your BFP?

the 8 weeks were from the dr's calculations from my LMP but my last two periods had been a teensy bit irregular and i thought that the 8 weeks seemed a bit far fetched because i had'nt got my BFP until about a week and a half ago but they said they always take the due date from the LMP until they know more and since this is my first pregnancy i just figuered id listen to them until i was told otherwise

well then I don't think there's any need for you to worry. Sounds like you are developing normally for 5-6 weeks. So I think you belong with us in the August thread!

Just wondering.....why would you be sent for a scan that early? My GP wont do them before 8-10wks.

because i had a teensy bit of spotting but my hcg levels were at 10,800 so they werent concerned but they said they'd do an ultra-sound anyway to double check how far along i am

oh okay....ta. I've always wondered when I've seen posts about scans at 5wks but curiosity got the better of me today.

If you're only 5 weeks you won't see a heartbeat then.
6 weeks can even be iffy if the u/s was over your belly and not an internal one.
With DS we saw the hb at 6w2d with an internal scan.
