Good Morning Ladies
I just wanted to check that I am taking enough folate, as I know that it's critical in the development of the baby in the first 12 weeks and I don't want to have stuffed it up!!!
I have been taking one folate tablet per day whilst TTC (I am taking the Blackmores Folate which = 500mcg per tablet). Now that I am pg, I have switched to the Blackmores pregnancy and breastfeeding tablets which still contains folate plus a stack of other vitamins. I am taking 2 per day (as it says on the bottle).
Does this all sound right??
BTW, welcome to all the newbies - such an exciting time :D

Don't mind me jumping in here-
if you're taking folate tabs or Preg/BF formula you'll be fine as you do also get folate naturally from fresh fruit and veg- particularly leafy green veg.

Thanks Kazza, I just wanted to confirm.
I'm only 5 weeks pg and I read that this is went the neural tube is developing, so a crucial time to get the folate intake right.
So much to learn!!! :)

prudie- I am als taking 2 Blackmores pregnancy and breastfeeding tablets a day. I did the same with DS too. Also whilst TTC I was taking just the Folate.
Good Choice:) the Blackmores pregnancy and breastfeeding tablets cover the required amount of folate so keep taking them right to the end!!
Good luck with everything!!
i was taking blackmores last pregnancy, this pregnancy my obstetrician advised Fefol ( i think thats what it was anyway) so its a mix of iron and folate, i took that for the first trimester and then went back to blackmores

Just thought I'd add my two cents worth :p . I'm taking Elevit, which my GP recommended before I started TTC. She was pregnant at the time so I figure if it was good enough for her.....

I'm going to put my opinion in here too.
Last pg I took FGF on my PBs advice, but am now taking Blackmore's on advice from my GP.
Blackmore's is the only pregnancy/folate tablet that also contains Iodine. There is recent research giving pretty good evidence that Iodine assists in increasing IQ in children when taken during pregnancy.
As far as dosage, you should follow the directions on the bottle, unless prescribed otherwise by your doctor.

I'm taking GNC Women's Prenatal Formula which was referred by my Nathuropath. It's got all the essential vitamins (multi vitamin) and also has folate, iron, zinc & Iodine. I am also taking calcium vitamins, vitamin C, and Fish Oil Omega 3 DHA/EPA.
Hi ladies. I am taking the Pretorius pregnancy multi - it has heaps in it including iodine and fish oil + 500 of folic acid. I also take extra folic acid - apparently up to 1000 per day is recommended and you can't really over do it cos any excess is excreted and not stored in the body, as it is water soluble.
