My DD is 18 months old n very rarely speaks any word.Around 2months back she used to say mumma n papa and a 1month back she said"i ov"for "i love u".But for 2 weeks I m noticing she is not speaking any word;even after i mumbles a lot of words to her all the time.
I m really worried as I dont know what to do.
Please help!!!
Thanx

Hi, I am no professional in this area, but maybe she is just going through a bit of a phase. I don't think there is much you can do but keep talking to her and encouraging her to speak. Is she bilingual (sp?), as I know my nephew went through phases like that and the speech therapist said it could be a contributing factor. He is now a happy talking 33 month old who talks his head off in English and German! She is only 18 months so I would just keep encouraging her and see how she goes.
Good luck. :)
She might just be concentrating her development in other areas right now but if you've concerned maybe a health nurse or paediatrician would help? You might want to think about anything new or different in her environment too in case she's just a little disrupted - illness, recent vaccination, new people around, moving house, lots of things can be disruptive for little ones. Get some professional advice if you're not comfortable and if you get brushed off just keep asking for more help.

Thanx to both of u for ur valuable advice.
Ya she is bilingual! Perhaps this is the reason.
Anyways thanx once again n i'll keep on trying n maintain my cool
Take care
If you are worried get it checked out, but what JanetF was saying about any changes in her life is a really good point. I noticed when we went overseas my ds stopped doing a lot of the 'new' things he had started to do before we left. He eventually settled though and didn't have any problems.
Having a bilingual child is so great. My little nephew comes out with the funniest German words. It is just so weird to hear him say them. I think we will try and teach my DS German but he is not exposed to it as much as my nephew (he is taken care of by Oma more often).
Good luck and let me know how you go! :)
