I am now 33 weeks and haven't gained any weight at all throughout the whole time. With my other 2 boys, I gained a little, never a great deal, but usually by now I felt and looked really pregnant. Dr says things are OK, that baby is just small. Has anyone else had the same sort of thing? What was the outcome? I'm starting to worry more each day.

Hi Supamum,
I'm Karena, mother to Harry 9 months. This happened to me. I put on a lot of weight at the beginning of my pregnacy as it helped with the morning sickness but then nothing. At my 32 week check up the Dr scared the s**t out of me when she told me my baby wasn't growing and was too small. She sent me for an emergency u/s to check the baby. If the baby wasn't growing they were going to get me to 36 weeks and then have a c/s. They thought that the bub had a better chance out rather than in.
So after two days of hell, as I couldn't book an u/s sooner, we went for the u/s and everything was normal. The baby was long and skinny. The OB told me that it was on the smaller side of normal but still within average range. I was, however, told to leave work early for other problems that may contribute to the bub being that little bit smaller. So I left the next week at 33 weeks.
Harry was born at 39 weeks a very healthy 2.9kgs and 54cms long. He is still on the long and lean side, which everyone comments on. But he is following his curve and is happy, healthy and developing normally so I'm okay about it.
If you are really worried ask for an u/s and have the baby measured, that way you know for sure.
If you want more info pm me.
Good luck.

I had a scare also about the same time, although I had gestational diabetes which normally casues the opposite problem. Apaarently because I followed the diet down the line my baby had less fat. I was sent for a scan at 35 weeks to assess the size and she too was on the small side of average. However, she was born at 39 weeks and 2 days a healthy 2.86 kilos so I wouldnt worry at all. I only put on 4 kilos by the time my pregagncy was over (I had actually already put on 12 kgs before the GD was diagnosed so I LOST weight whilst pregnant!). Ultrasounds are never 100% accurate and can sometimes cause more harm then good!

My beautiful girl is no 10 1/2 weeks old and 5 kgs so they make up for their little size in time.

I didn't put on much weight through my pregnancy (I actually felt like I had lost weight), I found out at 36 weeks that I had gestational diabetes and had to follow a strict diet, which didn't help the weight gain but my baby was born at 39 weeks and weighed a healthy 3.8kg.

Hi Supamum and everyone else,

I'm so glad I came across this thread. I'm currently 34 weeks and I've only gained about 3 kgs during the whole pregnancy the last time I was weighed a couple of weeks ago. I have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, and even lost weight (1kg) going on the diet. Even before the going on the diet, I felt like I was losing weight - my face has thinned out a bit - I feel like my metabolism has sped up with the pregnancy.

I'm pretty sure I've gained some weight back over the festive season (I was a little naughty for a couple of days), as my clothes are starting to feel tighter around the bust (I don't have scales at home). No one has said my baby it too small (yet), but I have been concerned that everything is on track.

Finding out about your experiences has helped put my mind at rest somewhat.

Don't panic when I fell pregnant with Jac I weighed 114 kgs. At my 2 antenatal appointment 7 weeks later I weighed 94 kgs. My highest pregnancies weight was 104Kgs. I had Jac at 41 weeks and 5 days. She weighed exactly 3kg. Don't worry too much or that's when something could happen because you've upset yourself. If your majorly concerned like I was see your doctor and demand to make sure everything was alright. As it turned out Jac was just a late bloomer and waited until I was about 30 weeks before she grew to be about average. Anything you are worried about maker sure you discuss it with your Ob. That way they can find if there is a problem and you can get to enjoy your pregnancy.

If the doctor isn't worried then neither should you be. I was really sick with a virus halfway through my pregnancy and lost about 12kg. I didn't gain a single pound from 20 weeks on. At 40 weeks I weighed 13kg lighter than I did before I got pregant! Eloise was a healthy 3.69kg and three days overdue.

Hi everyone, thanks for the wonderful words of reassurance you have given me. I had a scan at 35 weeks and it showed that bub has short legs and not a lot of fluid around it. Almost too low actually! So we have to have another scan at 37 weeks to compare and if it looks like baby is not growing and/or fluid level has dropped any bub may be better off out than in. Doc is not too overly concerned but he does want me monitored.
Once again thanks for reassuring me.

consider yourself lucky! its one more thing you dont have to think about once your baby is actually out and about
i gained about 35 kilos due to gestational diabetes that my doctor neglected to tell me about, and ive been finding it really hard to lose it all
there are already so many things youre probably thinking about- if your baby is healthy give yourself a break from all the worry and relax
