View Full Version : Washing Cloth
Hi guys, so far I've been washing my cloth nappies on their own.
I've never really thougt about it until now, do you think there is a problem washing them with clothes or towels or bedding?
What do you wash your cloth nappies with, or do you do them on their own?

I generally always just do a load of nappies by themselves - but then I'm a leeeeeetle compulsive about my washing, I have to do ONLY my clothes, then ONLY my kids clothes, then ONLY the towels, then ONLY the nappies, etc etc. Tea towels go with the towels, sheets are separate by themselves.
But having said that, yesterday I chucked one (wet only) nappy in with a load of mixed clothes and tea towels. Because all together it was one load's worth, and I felt so good afterwards because (for about 10 minutes:p) there was NO dirty washing in my whole house!!!
i generally wash by themselves i'd never wash them with towels cos they'd get fluff on them. Occasionally i do wash with clothes to make a full load,....BTW i dont seperate colour clothes either lol
With 4 in our household I generally have enough washing that they're it's done seperately to nappies. Especially with an 8yr old daughter who likes to change clothes constantly after school/weekends, and a 16 mth old who likes dirt!!
As DD2 has alot of nappy free time if something gets wee on it then I'll chuck it in with the nappies, usually it's a towel or the dress/shirt she was wearing at the time.
Personally I don't like to put the nappies in with the bulk of our clothes. Plus I've always got a load of nappies to do every couple of days anyway.
I do, however, put my cloth pads in with the clothes to wash them and I have no problem doing that.

I've just been waiting until I can do a full load of cloth nappies on their own- I don't really mind, but I only wash full loads to save water so usually wait until I have enough. I wash nappies like this every 2-3 days, now that I have enough (not that I've stopped buying, lol).
I do wash grotty face washers, breastpads, the kid's clothes and DH's business clothes and mine all together though- as soon as there's a full load. We don't seem to go through that many clothes, it still takes a couple of days to get enough.
I do seperate whites from colours, but don't care if white singlets are being washed with a white towel that was peed on.
i wash mine every day but my machine is only a 4.5kg some its tiny doesnt take much to fill
I always wash all of Hugh's stuff together- be that nappies, sheets, clothes or wraps and spewies.
Some people prob think it's gross but honestly I've never had a problem. It's all rinsed at the end and then hung out in the sun.
For me it saves time and water.
I usually hot rinse the nappies with a smidge of washing detergent before washing them, so I don't mind washing them on warm temp with our clothes *shrug* it also goes through a spray rinse and then a deep rinse cycle and I haven't found any odours in the clothes or nappies - it all gets hung outside anyway :)
Once I have enough of the decent MCNs I'll aim to wash every 2 days, but atm I wash the nappies in the evening and they hang out overnight and are dry by about 9-10am, then stay out there for another hour or so of sun.

In my house all the washing gets chucked in together - nappies included! I can't be bothered sorting out DH's clothes from mine etc it all comes out clean in the end and I get a full load of clothes to wash each day if I include the nappies into the normal washing.

I have enought nappies that they are a full load on their own with the face washers I ue for wipes about every 4 days.
I always wash them on their own. I like to have fabric softener in with the clothes and especially the towels, and you can't use fab soft on MCN.... so yeah... I wash them seperate.
I wash the nappies seperately though I would wash new nappies with the baby clothing.
If I don't have a full load of nappies (but want to wash some) I will add baby clothes to the load, after an initial rinse. They still come up clean and fresh :D
From time to time I have added my clothes too - it doesn't bother me. I prefer washing the nappies by themself as it makes it easier to hang on the line :o cause they are all together.

Hey Hathor ;)
I wash on them on their own at the moment, mainly because I go thru about 8-10 a day, and quite a few poos.
But at DS's age, if they haven't had poo, I'd just chuck them in with clothes - it's only wee, and when you start TT - there will be wee on his clothes anyway!
