View Full Version : The best diet ever invented and it works!
Hi ladies,
It is wonderful to hear so many women trying out weightloss programs.:yelclap:
I just wanted to share some advice to everyone. I want to see women succeed in their "diets". However in order for that to happen you need to see it as a lifestyle not a diet. It is how you should eat for the rest of your life.
Use whatever u need to kickstart yourself but then learn to live it and enjoy it. I guarantee if u follow this u wont just lose weight but every part of u will look fantastic.
You should never be hungry. Your family can eat the same. This is what we eat everyday, eat as much as u like.
Here's what we eat
Salads: include any of these - fancy lettuce, roma tomatoes, finely sliced celery, finely sliced capsicum, finely sliced mushrooms, half cooked broccolli, grilled pumpkin, avocado, fresh asparagus, salad onions, unsalted nuts, lentils, eggs, warm brown rice, more the merrier!
Veges: Any veges, just steam them so u dont lose vitamins, if boil use limited water and save the water for your soups.
Snacks: precut variety of raw veges put into containers in fridge to dip into hommus or tzaiki dip, low joule gherkins, marinated mushrooms, low joule mini onions, fruit, beetroot, corn, asparagus, fruit
Protein: grilled chicken breasts, steamed fish in alfoil in oven with herbs and tomatoes, prawns, tuna, salmon, eggs, lean meats
Fluids: Water, flavour water with squeezed lemon, lime or orange, herbal teas, lots of green tea, soy milk. And red wine is fine (antioxidants, not as many calories as other alcohol) in moderation.
Carbs: Remember some veges are carbs too. Soy and linseed bread, brown rice, vitawheat whole grain crackers, allbran
Other: Fresh garlic, fresh chillies, pepper
Not allowed: no salt, no sugar, no butter, no supermarket juice (make your own but better still, eat the fruit the fibre is better for your body to break down).:shame:
Sauces: (all to be used in moderation, checking sugar value as sugar will turn straight to fat). I use sweet chilli, teriyaki marinades, oyster sauce etc.
My only naughty thing: I have whatever creamy fatty salad dressing i want but i mix it with half water. I hav to be a little kind.
I always have a large salad in the fridge that i can peck at all day and a big container of soup. i make my soups from scratch - any veges with stock cubes boil it all day.
Think of food as fuel and make your body work to break it down. It's a lot harder to sit down and eat a plate of raw veges than to drink it in a soup. You'll stay fuller for longer too.
:wizard: Other tricks
- Kelp tablets (natural way to assist with healthy thyroid and absorb fats proteins etc)
- Womens multivitamin to cater for all areas of health eg. heart, bones
- If dining out, have a salad or soup before hand
- Exfoliate everyday with exfoliating gloves to eliminate toxins. If u live near the beach use the sand at the beach...i do!
- Moisturise everyday to aid circulation break down fat and reduce cellulite
How to get your man involved
- Pack him gourmet lunches with these ingredients, include love notes to encrouage
- Go bushwalking on weekend with kids, encourage him by packing beer with the healthy lunch
- Exercise together
Exercise
- If u watch t.v. sit on a yoga mat and stretch or do crunches when commercials are on.
- Walk to the shops or beach with bub in pram. I walk everyday with 4 yr old on scooter/bike and 5 mth old in pram.
- Sex, yes it is the best way to work off dinner or dessert if you hav been naughty
- Wear ankle weights when u walk
- Download your most favourite music ever onto your mp3 player and be motivated to run or walk everywhere
- Carry bub when at shops for short period, rotating each side
- Heard of the "Hotpants workout"...buy it!
- Try belly dancing, it works
It will take a bit of organisation but it is possible. And you can have treats as long as you eat like this 80% of the time.
Just make sure every meal includes lots of veges/salad, some protein and a little bit of carbs.
I really hope by sharing this it will help a lot of women. If anyone needs any other advice am happy to share.
I guarantee this will work. The results will vary from person to person but you will keep the weight off forever and you will be healthy and a wonderful role model for your children.
Good luck, and please let me know how u all go!
That was such great reading, thank you for putting the time and effort into doing that.
I am at the moment following the Tony Ferguson diet and i think it has some good principles to follow, specially the lowering of carbs and eating portions of protein and as much veges (low carb veges) and drinking 2 litres of water. Treats are limited to sugar free and protein has to be under 5gs of carbohydrate per 100gm. I am finding it a fairly easy program to follow and was hoping that i will be able to incorporate this into my daily lifestyle when i reach my goal, rather than just use it as a diet.
So following something like you suggested and the tips are really great, i definately know i need to move more and am trying to get myself in the mindset of exercising.
:D Thanks heaps!! BTW, are you a nutritionist or something?

Hi kiah, thanks for all that fantastic information!
Much of what you described is similar to the principles of Sureslim which I did for a year - I did their breastfeeding program which is a bit different to their quick weight loss program and you don't lose the weight quite so quickly for obvious reasons. I lost just over 10kg doing Sureslim.
It was easy to follow too as I found that when I was eating all the right foods, I honestly didn't crave all the bad foods that I used to crave. :smiliedance:
I still try to follow their guidelines to this day and you're right about it being a lifestyle choice, I will eat this way now for the rest of my life as I feel so much better for eating really healthy food and loads of veggies, and the right amount of the healthy carbs to keep me going.
I'm still working on it all the time and I have the occasional lapse, but I have never gone back to the way I used to eat before Sureslim.
Thanks again! It's great to see people out there sharing their knowledge!
Hi Proudmumma,
Not a nutritionist but would luv to help women lose weight as my job one day. I'm good at organising and motivating in just about everything i do.
Was a teacher but now just a stay at home mummy. Have just learnt over the years how to eat right and the absolute key to whole beauty. Good luck girls!
:fingerscrossed:
That's awesome, you sound like you'd be really good at motivating people how to stick to a healthier eating regime.
Maybe you could work out a program targeted to busy mums on how to eat right and exercise while you still have to do everything that us mums have to do.

I dont touch any white bread, pasta, white rice or potatoes and only eat chocolate or cakes on rare occasions as a treat. Just by doing that and carrying on as normal I have managed to lose weight.
The one thing I have a problem with is water. I dont drink enough... I know I should, but I forget. I always forget! I cant drink water on its own so I have to flavour it. I just hate the taste of water .. I know, you are probably laughing at me now and saying.. water doesnt taste of anything.. but IMO it tastes of water and I hate it lol:laughing: I know, I'm wierd...
Anyone got any tips on remembering to drink water? I have read that you lose weight a lot faster if you are drinking a lot of water as he water helps o flush out the fat and toxins.

I was just reading something about rebounders/mini trampolines. Apparently, they burn more calories than jogging??? Something to do with more muscles being used. I will have to dust my trampoline off!
Little pickle,
I fill up several 600ml mount franklin bottles each day that way if i see 4 empty bottles on the sink by the evening i know my work is done. Much easier to drink out of a bottle than a glass too.

I just worked really hard at building it into my daily routine and I use a really big glass - a 400ml one! When I get up, it's the first thing I do. Then I have another glass with breakfast (which for me is at least an hour later as I go to the gym in the mornings). Then I have another one with lunch and another one again in the afternoon. Then my last one at dinner. That's 2 litres. I replaced my tea and coffee with water. It's boring I know.... but that's what I did to make sure I was drinking enough.
Hope that helps!

LP, I can only guzzle the water down when I'm PG or BF (nature's way of telling me I need water I guess - I'm always wanting water!) all other times, I never like it all that much.
One way I love to get my water when I don't feel like it, is to have a big glass of soda water with a hint of lime juice (limes are usually too expensive. I get them fresh when I can, but otherwise I just stick to the lime juice in the bottle you can buy - similar to lemon juice.) This is my fave drink!

Oooh, thanks for the advice .. right, I have no excuse now, I am going to make a big effort to drink more water. The bottles are a good idea, as it will be a visual reminder of how much I have drunk ... I have a shocking memory so wouldnt have a clue otherwise! MrsM the lime juice idea sounds great, I love fresh lime. I wouldnt have thought of drinking soda water! I will have to replace the diet coke with soda water. I guess it would be a lot more thirst quenching!

Kiah Kiah Kiah thank you thank you thank you for posting this!!!!! YOU know you've helped me out so much! My entire weightloss journal is inspired by you Kiah you are a legend! :hugs: and LADIES this WORKS! I've felt so much more energy and more self esteem than I have in a whole long time. My kids are getting involved and are thinking RIGHT, they work with me with this new lifestyle change, and the hubby is being a blessing in disguise, I never thought that he would of wanted this as much as I did! What an eye opener! :smiliedance:
Fantastic post, Kiah!! You are spot on with all that you have said! Fat loss is really that easy!
I'd suggest anyone who is looking at shedding excess "fat" (not "weight", because weight is also made up of muscle, and you definitely don't want to do that), following Kiah's guidelines would guarantee that.
With the "food as fuel" comment Kiah mentioned - we really need to re-assess our food intake daily. Have you spent all day on the couch or have you been out and about walking? If its been a lazy day, you do not need as much 'fuel', so therefore reduce your carbs and reduce your portion sizes. If you have been physically busy, more carbs are ok as you'll need them for energy.
As for portion sizes - this is the biggest downfall for most of us. Go and buy some Lean Cuisine meals for a couple nights in a row, and see how tiny the serves are and know this is what you should be aiming for! Invest in some smaller-sized dinner plates, and give yourself half of what you are giving your male partner, or put half of it in a container for lunch the next day.
Plus, most of us serve up our biggest meals at dinner - then we eat it, sit on the couch for a couple of hours, then go to bed! So why fuel our bodies at a time we are not consuming energy? Reduce your carbs at night (or remove them completely at night from time to time) and try and have your desserts at the start of the day, as then you will have a full day to burn them off!
Also, have some protein with every meal as, where carbs are our energy supply, protein is for muscle building. We need to build more muscle to burn more fat, as the more muscle your body is carrying, the faster your metabolism works.
A good rule to follow is:
mornings - 70% carb, 30% protein
lunch - 50% carb, 50% protein
dinner - 30% carb, 70% protein
As for the water - you will probably find that as soon as you start regularly eating healthfully, you will develop a taste for it. Once you start pumping your body full of good foods and doing exercise, you'll be surprised how your body naturally starts wanting MORE natural and healthy things put in it! In the meantime, slice up lemons and oranges to put in your water with a few mint leaves - it tastes very refreshing, plus the lemon in the water is good to help flush out toxins.
In regards to salad dressing - check out the key ingredients on the salad dressing bottles and make your own. Bottled salad dressings generally have sugar as the number one ingredient! Read some labels, and you'll be surprised! Making your own is SOO quick and easy, and so much healthier for you!
But at the end of it, you will need exercise too.
When you are out walking, or on your treadmill, wear a pedometer to count how many steps you are doing. Its also a fantastic motivational tool. Plus, if you reach the end of the day and have only done about 3,000 steps - have just a grilled chicken breast with salad for dinner. But if you reach your 10,000 steps, incorporate some basmati rice (low GI, so takes longer for your body to burn, so burns more calories as your body tries to break it down) or brown rice.
Also invest in a heart rate strap to monitor your heart rate so as to get your heart rate in the right training zone (60-70% of your maximum heart rate for fat burning). Rather than that hour-long walk where you've dragged your feet and stopped and started and so may only have been 10 minutes in your actual fat burning zone, wouldnt you rather, having put aside 60 minutes for fat burning, known you have spent that full 60 minutes actually burning fat?!
Plus, I have to say, the biggest mistake women make is thinking that weight training will make them muscly like a man! This is totally incorrect - our bodies just can't develop muscle like this (and the women you see looking like this - they're on something to look like that!) so get on those weight machines and start "pumping iron" as it really will make you burn fat quicker, plus it will tone all that excess flab and give you a much nicer shape.
And one last piece of advice. If you have an old pair of jeans that you used to fit in to, pull them out and stick in your top drawer. At the end of each month, try them on. Ditch those scales as a guide, as this works much better as you will be able to see as those jeans get closer and closer to the top of your legs as the weight drops off. The more exercise you do, the more muscle you build, and so that figure on the scales is not a true reflection on the changes in your body. Too often people give up as, whilst their bodies are looking much more toned because of the muscle they are building, they are too blinded by that scale figure to see it themselves!
Good luck everyone on your fat loss mission!
Kiah - So good to see someone who 'gets it.' My DH and I eat like this and I am back down to my pre-pregnancy weight already :smiliedance: . It only takes a week or two to get used to it and then you feel great for it.
For anyone wanting to lose weight: You can't go wrong with this way of eating and you will feel fantastic for it.
Thanks everyone...it is pretty simple isnt it.
How can u eat any other way?

Just wondering... If I follow this diet, where would I get my calcium?
Be very careful when following diets that do not include essentials that our bodies need to protect against osteoperosis.
Fourtunate i drink heaps of soy milk and add some cheeses and yoghurt too. i also take a multivitamin for heart and bone health....i make sure i include evrything in my diet...:fingerscrossed:
I love your healthy way of eating Kiah! It's so yummy and natural.
I eat pretty similar to your diet most of the time, but I have a lot of natural sugars in my diet like honey and fruit and I need at least a tiny piece of chocolate each day otherwise I get a bit cranky.
Just wondering if you get any sugar cravings and how you handle them?

It sounds so easy. I know that this is the right thing to do, but I go a few days with good intentions and then I seem to lose momentum. :gloomy:
How much fruit would you eat in a day? I am a bit of a fruit fly and love my fruit.
I am on the cSIRO diet at the moment which is kind of similar with the protein serves and having salad/veges with every meal. It also allows for yoghurt and milk for calcium.

Okay u r gonna hate this...i don't eat fruit,i just don't like it. But I'll drink any natural juice, no added sugar.
Don't worry if u slip up on it. Just start again and again. TRy little steps, alter one thing in your diet a week if it seems overwhelming. Go for a ten minute walk a day. Your fitness will build, you'll see. Goodluck. I have a fitness/weightloss journal too for what i do each day if that helps. It's not really deigned for other people really, it ca be a bit boring as i luv eating the same things each day and fish every night, but check it out if u want.
Luv Kiah:idea:
