Not sure where to put this, but my son is 17 months of age, and I was cusious as to what other strange/difficult words your children could/can say when they were around the same age? or even younger.....it doesnt matter......

My son says
Vaccum
stinky
Ice-ceam, to name a few
& I have been told this is really good for his age.....

Dont want to compare, thats not the point of this......just a friendly bit of sharing your childs vocabulary range...... It is amazing how quickly they begin to pick up words.......

All kids are different. My friends daughter is 20 months & talks in sentences clearer than most 3 year olds.

Hayley says:

drink
mummy
daddy (her first word  )
shoe
car
bubby
dog (though all animals are dogs)
ball
go (if you say "ready, set...")
bye
ta-ta
hello (sort of)
how are you (sort of)
train (also makes a train noise "toot-toot" and does the hand/arm action)
weee (when she sees a slide)
teddy
no
jacks (Hungry Jacks)
sake (if I say "for f..k sake")
counts to 2 or 3 (not very clearly though, for one she says "un")
she says her own name but she says "layley"
nanny (have no idea why she says this as she doesn't have a nanny and she doesn't see any of her nannas/granparents very often)
Brock (her cousin's name)
Shay (ditto)
juice
eye
ear
nose
hair (though she sometimes gets them mixed up)
ny-ny (good night)
what doing?
book
turtle
purple
green
drawing
doodle
door
bath
teeth
tree
cat
hat
pear
why
mine

other words she says that are her "own"words (iykwim):
dee (dummy)
kee (anything with kee sound at the end "socky etc)
na-na (banana)
bay/bubby (baby)
bear (Brett, her Uncle)
Caffy (my name, Cassie, only if someone tells her to say it)
Gant (Grant, ditto to my name)
Ky-yee (Kylie, Aunty's name, Kylie)
Bee (Auny's name, Bree/Brianna)
Nay (Aunty's name, Renae)
Pappa (calls SIL's dad this coz thats what her cousin's call him, even though he is not her grandfather)
cuh (cuddle)
dat (that)
mmm (when she eats something she likes or even pretends to eat)
bir (bird)

for some reason she calls Winnie-The-Pooh bubby but her other teddies are teddy.

thats all I can think of atm. I didn't realise she could say that many words (plus a few more that I can't remember).

Also, her cousin who is a month older says heaps of words (heaps of sentences too) whereas Hayley mostly only says one word or occasionally 2 word sentences. My nephew says "burger jacks" for Hungy Jacks which is pretty cute. Also says a few naughty words too.

Seth used to say lots of things but then stopped. Now at 20 months he is kinda starting all over again which is frustrating. He does the usual:
no
yeah
uh oh
mine
ta
hello
ta-ta & bye
cause
mummy
daddy
poppy
mam ma (grandma)
mik (milk)
joos (juice)
bik (for any type of bikkie/snack)
lol lol (lollie)
bob (bob the builder)
max (max from new macdonalds farm)
car
some of the kids names from playgroup and rele's names
na na (banana)
cat cat
puppy
re (means ready)
up
jump
yum yum

Oh god he does say a bit now that I read all that - and thats all I can remember for now ..... pity he is starting over, imagine what he'd be mumbling now LOL. Oh well.

My nephew is 2 (just turned) and he cannot say anything!! He only grunts and says "eh eh"

I was very near saying something to his mum (but I was a bit unsure...A. because I dont have much experience with kids...B. Because i thought they must realise and I shouldnt bring attention to it)...luckily my MIL said that they should take him to a speech pathologist and have him checked out...my MIL is in early intervention for learning difficulties etc.

My son also says a few choice naughty words, he picked up from me driving, like in that ad...lol....oooops, he also says

Knockya.....and thumps his fist into his hand...
knock
teeth
eye
nose
hair
hat
snacka (meaing snack)

& lots more....

Im just finding it really exciting how everyones young bubs (toddlers now) can say what seems like such big words IYKWIM.......

Every child I know is different, thats what makes it more interesting....It would be quiet boring if everyones children developed at the same rate etc.......

I know of a little boy like this, he is 20 months and barely speaks at all........

I feel really sorry for him though as his mother didnt want a boy and doesnt care for her kids properly, & neglects them, and nothing gets done about it..... They have 2 kids a girl & boy, they didnt want the boy so treat him like sh*t & ignore him etc.. And now she is 29 weeks pregnant again......:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Good on your MIL for stepping up & bringing it to the parents attention

My son is 19 mnths and says mum, dad, book, bird, car, dog and a couple of other small words. I was a bit worried coz he's not using them alot but i do spend alot of time with him, reading, singing and when out walking we name everything we pass and i feel that when he's ready he will start with the sentences. I dont think there is anything wrong with him. He was crawling and walking before all the other bubs in our mothers group so i think he is just taking his time with this.

Shine's vocabulary astounds me. She is 14 months old and says waaaay more than my other kids could at the same age.
She says
Mum
Dad, daddy, dadda (depending on what she wants from him :p )
Jake
Duke (which is meant to be Luke :D )
Skye-Ann but sounds like dianne
Nenie (Venus)
Cat
Car
More
Drink
Booby
Chair (for highchair)
Ball
Kiss
No
Ta
Dandad (Grandad)
Dazzy (her aunty Jazzy)
Oh and she learned a new one yesterday while I was changing her nappy in town. I said "lift your bum" and she looked at me and said "Bum!" Jake cracked up laughing so she kept saying it. So if you were in Ipswich mall and saw a cute kid in a stroller saying "bum bum bum bum bum!!!", that was my girl!

She also says a few sentences. She says "dook at dat" (look at that) about a billion times a day whilst randomly pointing at stuff. "where is daddy" is also popular. "daddy work" is the mimicked reply.
