I've just been told by my obstetrician that he won't 'let me' go over my due date at all which I'm not happy about. Needless to say I'm not happy about not being given a choice although I will let him know next time that he can't make me do something I don't want to do without a good medical reason.
I was wondering if anyone has tried acupuncture for inducing labour? I am thinking of trying it before gel or syntocinin which I'd really prefer not to have if possible.
Any suggestions please!

I haven't personally tried it - but I have referred a number of clients to try acupunture when they are nearing their due date. The acupuncture will only "bring on the labour" if bub is ready to come. If bub isn't ready to enter the world, it gets your body ready for a "quicker/easier birth.

The acupuncturist I refer to has had a good success rate with encouraging an easier/quicker labour, but has mixed success with the babies coming earlier - as he says the babies come when they are ready.

I hope that helps - good luck.

I tried accupuncture to bring on labour with Lachlan, but it didnt work for me. Your cervix has to be ripe and ready for it to be effective. It just wasnt meant to be.
In the right circumstance it can work really well. Definately worth a try in my opinion.

Firstly...as you already know...your OB cannot "make you" do anything!!!

I would be SERIOUSLY discussing with him his reasons for your proposed induction....few babies/mums actually suffer from placental breakdown if they are "overdue" and there are lots of simple tests you can do/have to check the health of bub.

Anyway I tried acupuncture...3 sessions starting at my due date, every second day....I did not have any identifiable results from it, I ended up going 14 days over...but I did eventually go into spontaneous labour (whether from the acupuncture or not I cant say), and my bub was perfectly healthy with apgars of 9 and 10 at birth.

I would definately try acupuncture again as although I did not have results I still believe it works and I know other women have had almost immediate results.

I know why I wouldn't have an ob. next time either! I'm going to tell him tomorrow that I only want to be induced if there is a good medical reason. we'll see what the response is.

thanks for all the advice and best to everyone.

Ob is good but some of them don’t know all. You should try acupuncture; it can definitely have a good result to labour a child. For those pregnant women I recommend you acupuncture Miami because this is a good place for you to have a healthy labour.
